Strategy to obtain US Amex

Yes this. But how do we get notified about HSBC bonus transfer? I hardly login to check and been waiting for a chance to transfer/use it somewhere.
I got excited when Qatar listed HSBC with their 30% but on closer look at was for HSBC Thailand!

Hsbc does not have a retail banking division in Thailand .

I’m just in my way back from NY and catching up on everything. I thought my experience might be interesting to some.

I went to get my non driver ID so I could have another crack at applying with C1. Unfort I went on the wrong day though they checked and said my AU passport and HSBC US statement showing my NY address would have worked to get it.

I applied for a Citi checking account in branch and will look to meet the activity criteria to get the $325 bonus (the others were too high a commitment for me and I felt the FX risk might not be covered by the bonus. They would only let me open this account in branch even tho I’m already a Citi customer so good to tick this off.

I also went into a Chase branch and opened a checking account with $300 bonus so I’ll work on getting that when I get home.

The banker did tell me that they don’t accept the NY ID card so not sure if that also means C1 won’t.

I applied for CSP in branch and have the banker that helped me trying to push it through. Will be good to get it this time so the Ink business cards are then on my radar. Please remind me which Ink card is the one to get now?

Hope my experience is helpful.

Has anyone added an additional card to one of their US AMEX cards? I have an offer of 10k points for adding an additional card holder on my amex gold. I could add P2 but she doesnt have a SSN or ITIN so it may not be possible? It says I can provide the SSN/ITIN later upon card activation. Will they claw back points if we never provide it?

Thanks in advance

Currently in Thailand .trying multiple times to apply for Amex via. GT .Once I log into Oz Amex account the page does not load further and times / blanks out . Tried using VPN as well .
Could this be a geo blocking issue ?
Any solution ?

Go ahead . Can provide passport details via chat as well . Don’t think they will claw back points . At most they will close card .

I'm trying to get my ITIN added to my HSBC account. The agent is asking for a few details and I'm not sure how to answer one of the questions. In my HSBC account details, my permanent and mailing address are my US address.

After confirming with the agent that I'm a non-resident alien, the agent asks for my permanent tax residence address is. Would this be the my US address (that I have documented on my account) or my australian address?

It should be your Australian address .

Hi Guys,
I am looking to pay some large amount to school and not sure if it is wise move. Looking to pay 5k ~ 10k aud with Chase card. Have both cards for 2 -4 month now, and one of the card had been locked for an 800 aud transaction before and i called and had card unblocked. Total avaialble limit from chase is around 20k aud, and loads of limit left from other cards (such as amex).
I also have c1 venture but thats a new card, so not knee to use that one.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

You can cal and inform them of purchase . But most likely they will say they can’t assure you it won’t be blocked and to go ahead and attempt it .they will also usually send an email when you attempt a suspicious transaction asking you to approve it . Once you do so it should be smooth .

Thank you. Would serveral small amounts be better instead?

Some DPs:

I am travelling to the US next month, so am starting to put things into motion ahead of getting stateside. I've applied for a Green Card (via Amex GT) but, unsurprisingly, got the "Can we speak with you on the phone?" email and was asked to provide proof of residential address when I did.

... I provided copies of my US phone service invoice and a month -to-month renters/personal liability insurance policy I took out, which each list the address on them. I suspect neither would be enough by themselves, but am hoping the combination passes muster.

I hadn't heard back from AMEX after ~10 days, so phoned them and asked for an update. Unfortunately, this wasn't sufficient for AMEX. I asked what constituted a "utility bill", but they couldn't give me examples - just that it was one of the categories of accepted ID. I'll have to wait until the US HSBC account is opened.

Interestingly, they only want to confirm my full name, not my residential address.

To that end, I opened my AU HSBC account today and got HSBC Premier status straight away. Noting there have been some inconsistent DPs up-thread (from people who could apply for a US HSBC account instantly once becoming Premier vs having to wait 30 days), how does one actually go about opening a US HSBC account as an AU HSBC Premier customer? Do you do it through the AU online banking portal somehow? Or do you just go through the US HSBC website as if you were a new customer and they'll work it out in the background?

I called HSBC USA today after hearing nothing back from them (application made ~9 days ago). The woman on the phone was confused by the status of my account, as it was "Pending" but didn't specify why. After putting me on hold and calling the account opening team to check, she confirmed that it was pending because I had opened by AU HSBC account less than 30 days ago. Apparently once that period is over and I call back, they will open the account.

Hopefully I'll have a BofA account open in a fortnight or so; so will wait for a statement to generate and then go back to AMEX. Out of interest, does anybody know how long they will keep an application in a pending state while they wait for documents to be provided?

If you search the Amex website it will provide details of all applications made and likely have the info you require .

What's your non-driver ID and how did you get it?
