Strategy to obtain US Amex

The Amex Velocity card is a direct Amex card - what makes you think it couldn’t be used for GT?
That's my impression reading upthread a while ago. that's why I am saying correct me if I am wrong. But thought Amex with 3rd party like airlines are not qualified

Interesting. I’ve had 4 statements now (since Oct) and no FICO

Did you have accounts and a file before the HSBC card?
Yes, I had Cap1 since Mar 2024 - that could be the difference.

can someone please remind me which card it was gave you a credit score in the rejection letter? Tried searching the thread but couldn’t find it

I used an Amex velocity card for GT about 2 years back and it went through just fine - I think there's a difference between those cards and the DJ cobranded amex, which doesn't work (not that the card is around anymore).

It was the C1 VX pre-approval application - you'll get the score if you get rejected. If you get approved then all the better? 😄

I always thought you could only do Global Transfer once but I seem to recollect some here have done it more than once....how long should you wait to do the 2nd one if it is possible?

Lots of debate. You can go via the GT link but many believe only the first time is actually processed as a GT. I did my second card through the GT link because I still didn’t have an ITIN at that stage

I currently am using a friends NY apartment as address and have a mailing service for mailing address but they seem a bit slow to scan and post out etc - am looking at going back to USGlobal Mail as my mailing address - anyone have a residence in one state and a mailing address in another (eg California or Nevada)
For over a year, i had the US Globalmail's Texas address as my mailing address, and another address as my residential one. (An Arizona address) I had no problems with Cap1 or AMEX.

But now i am using Globalmail's Nevada address for both the residential and mailing address. It has been 9 months so far, and so far so good !

With regards to HSBC Premier, are you all able to see your US account under the Australian account?

I managed to open a HSBC Premier Singapore account this afternoon (Via the HSBC Singapore app) but it was not showing when i logged into my HSBC Australia account.

Does it take a while before Premier accounts from other countries are visible on your HSBC Australia account ?

PS : I will be applying for the US version very soon!

re HSBC AU - while I don't know if it's going to happen, I caught up with a mate of mine who is a private banker with HSBC. He reckons the AU operation isn't going to be sold as HSBC has invested in it for the year ahead. It potentially sounds like a BAU strategy to me but just putting it out there given it's been a topic of some speculation in the media and therefore on AFF.
I really hope it won't be sold off. Local banks such as NAB will gut it and everything will turn to cough.

Personally i don't think it will be sold off, as many Mainland Chinese in Australia use HSBC (Not to mention other Asian groups) and i am pretty sure there are many Premier customers amongst them.

That’s it thanks. Still have no score or file
It seems :(

That sucks. Have you opened any other cards than the Hilton in last 90 days?

Jul 24 - Amex Everyday
Nov 24 - Cap1 QuickSilver
Dec 24 - Hilton Aspire

So I am 3/24

And there’s the Amex Green and the Bonvoy Brilliant. Any others?

You didn’t go ahead with the idea of applying for more than one or two Aspire cards? Only asking, because those sorts of things may be having an impact.

I had the Amex Green and Brilliant via GT.

You can link your AU account to your US account, I can't imagine why you couldn't do the same with an SG account. It isn't automatic, you need to go into your account settings somewhere and do it. I can never remember what it is called but calling Premier will get you someone to explain

PS I have found that if you speak Chinese and ask for a Chinese operator you will 95% of the time get someone who knows what they are doing. Bonus points if you don't speak Chinese and still ask for a Chinese operator, then act confused and see if you get someone from SG or HK who can speak English and will help you anyway

Thank you for letting me know. I will snoop around the site, but will probably have to call up the Premier department in the end. And sadly my Mandarin Chinese is basic at best 😂

To see your US HSBC Premier acct in your Australian HSBC Premier acct, you need to first set up online US HSBC banking. Then go into your Australian HSBC acct, and under the My Account tab, select Add or Remove a country under Global View and follow the prompted steps. :)

That’s what I’m hoping too. I find them a good bank to deal with but for their foibles all financial institutions have them (like puny daily online transfer limits, taking so long to verify family trusts as not criminal enterprises but legitimate structures, etc). It has taken 1.5 weeks to review my CC limit increase application when it took <1 day for the initial approval - they’re my only gripes.

Oh wow, thank you for pointing this out. Let me give it a try.

Yes, i agree that HSBC processes are very slow and coughbersome, but apart from that, their staff are generally fine and helpful, and their Premier status is rather handy.

I am still pissed off with NAB for killing off some main benefits of the Coles credit card ( After NAB took over from Citi )
