Strategy to obtain US Amex

Jul 24 - Amex Everyday
Nov 24 - Cap1 QuickSilver
Dec 24 - Hilton Aspire

I had the Amex Green and Brilliant via GT.
These (5) cards can all be expected to be reflected on your credit file regardless of the application process. Have you been able to get a copy from any of the CRAs in the US?

Hypothetically - what would happen if i was to buy a flexible business class flight through Amex Travel for some date far down the line (thus helping with SUB spend), and then in the future refund it?

Submitted claw back
Blacklisted by Amex
I looked into doing something similar with another card (not amex) and found that fully refundable was more like fully refundable after 30 seconds else it's not refundable read the fine print you fool don't like it what u gonna do about it go to CFPB LOL they just got refunded (so my MS idea didn't work because I could t actually refuns the refundable ticket after 1 week...dodgy)

But surely if you do it once -thats not unreasonable - the whole point of flexible business class flights is am ability to make changes in the future.

Have you been back to page 565 and check out the revised 2025 edition to obtain US credit cards?
Yes, I've seen that compilation - thanks for highlighting it.

Perhaps it's only on my side, but all links in that post try to redirect to a certain platform owned by Mr Musk, which is why I asked if there was a specific link to use...

I’m pretty sure you’ll be good with a Global Transfer (due to your Amex Velocity). Certainly would try that first (once you have a us number and proof of address)

Don't do it. If you go underneath the minimum spend requirement with Amex, they will claw back the sign-up bonus. Almost 100% certainty with that one — that claw back mechanism operates well. The fact that you bought a refundable airfare has nothing to do with your contract with Amex the bank (as opposed to Amex travel).

So if i spent $15k in 3 months, got SUB, then refunded say $3k for example in month 8, they’d clawback the SUB? That seems ridiculous as its quite normal to refund some purchases.

Or are you saying - I’d only get the clawback if i didn’t spend anything more once i hit the $15k and thus with the refund my total spend went to $12?

If your MSR is $15K in 3 months and the total spend on that card (after refunds) in that 3 month period drops below $15K, they'll claw back the SUB. Doesn't matter if the refund (and thus drop below $15K) happens 10 months later.

That's why people recommend spending more than the MSR and not relying on any expenses that you might need to refund (eg airfares/hotels).

There's a reason why Amex does it. People were abusing the system by doing exactly as you described.

Thanks for pointing this out - coincidentally some flights I booked on platinum had to be cancelled and I didnt realise this - will be fine with other spend but will buffer it up to make sure

Just payed some employee super via ATO CC portal - fee for Amex is 1.45% - will help with minimum spend

I was going to yesterday at 40% but didn’t that the CVC code for my card. Today - bang - 50% off

Question regarding ABP please, hoping to use the Priority Pass benefit but reading the letter came with the card, my understanding is that I just can use for myself, extra guests US$35/pp. Basically it's not good use for my family then. Am I reading it right? And I cant use it in Amex Centurion lounge either. Not until I spent 75K/year. Am I right?
