Student changes name by deed poll to avoid £220 Ryanair admin fee

I'm surprised you've all missed the funniest part of the article:

Ryanair pride themselves on being a customer-centric business
.

IMHO, from the usual limited info available:

1.- The fault here lies with the pax and the person who bought the ticket, NOT the airline.
2.- This is NOT just about a charge for "simply hitting backspace and typing a new name" as the pax infers
3.- The pax is an absolute moron.
Let's move away from Ryanair for 1 minute.

How about Sri Lanka Airlines? Every airline in the world asks you to enter your first name first and then your surname. Not Sri Lankan website. I made that mistake and realised when I saw the e-ticket come through. They refuse to change it even though the change is the simplest change in IT to make. I am not a moron and did not do it intentionally to scam anyone.

In the end they said they could fix the boarding pass in BKK airport but I know I would not be able to claim frequent flyer points as the name on the booking does not match the FF program and try. In the end I realised I was going to be 60SCs short of QF Platinum so booked a new business class airfare and forfeited this particular economy class airfare.

Years ago a travel agency (F.C.) booked +1's domestic QF flight with her names reversed.
Was only noticed on check in when they could not find her booking. All sorted at the check in counter, no charge, just asked to keep documentation in case FF points did not show up.

I understand for international this could be a whole different story.

Changing names? Not worth the cost and/or hassle IMHO. A passport alone will set you back $250.00

Names aren't much of an issue on domestic flights provided you self check in.
Although I note recent convictions for flying under a false name.
