Subway in Decline

Going to add a different perspective ... until I started working outside Australia I went to Subway perhaps once or twice a year. Or not at all. I didn't really see the point in it when there are heaps of good quality sandwich placed offering loads of choice and much better variety and quality of breads and fillings.

However where I work in Singapore whilst there are some what I call not-quite-right sandwich options in the vicinity I actually find Subway a reasonable (in terms of price and quality) compromise., so I do go there more often than I would have.
Absolutely - try spending a week in China eating whatever the locals decide to cook up - and if you have much experience there and see their food handling procedures I must admit a Subway can be a very very welcome sight indeed.

I'm fairly sensitive to food smells and also don't like the smell of coffee. I've never had a problem with the smell passing or being in a Subway. I'll see whether I notice one next time I go past.

I've seen Subway in busy food courts and I've seen them in quiet places with just a few shops around them. I've sometimes wondered how the quiet area Subways stay in business as there are plenty times of the day where they wouldn't get much passing trade. I was in one of these quiet stores buying a cookie for my daughter and the staff member who served us gave us a free cookie with the two we ordered. I guess they figured they weren't going to be able to sell it before the end of the day.

I prefer roast meat from a sandwich shop which looks and tastes like it has just been cooked. The Subway beef tastes like the roast beef you would get from a deli or a hospital. It looks and feels a little bit like plastic. I have Subway occasionally but don't really feel satisfied after a 6 inch sub. I guess I'll try a footlong sub one day but I have no idea when that will be.

Subway has a weird smell to it that at certain times of the day just makes me feel ill so I generally only to go one every few months, sort of like McDonalds and Hungry Jacks, I get the craving for one of the above and then might have lunch and then think that was a bad choice and not go to one for a few months.
The cookies aren't bad but they are over priced and probably full of sugar.

And don't mention the Subway sauces... Add cheese and one of the cream based sauces and you are looking at something way worse than a Big Mac... But I guess cookies are better than fries

I like Subway though i wouldnt eat there regularly. To be fair, there are a number of sauce options. My usual one is Chipotle. This link will give better view of menu items:

Subway aren't the only ones using frozen dough.Coles got caught out.
Then at Easter Woollies had Jamie Oliver hot cross buns advertised.Asked about them at Woollies Upper Burnie-"Oh they come in frozen.Only cook them up if someone asks."

This reminds me of the Woolworths (or is it Coles - or both?) cakes that are "pre-thawed for the customer's convenience".
