Successful CSM requests

I'm WP, flying almost exclusively domestic, with Qantas and it happens on about 5% of flights.
To be honest, I like it. It's a nice touch and I've never once felt the CSM was non genuine. My exploitation of the situation is generally limited to a glass of red. Happily provided, with top ups.

My experiences are predominantly with Qantas. I fly almost exclusively international, however on the odd occasion I do fly domestic I would say I get greeted maybe 50% of the time. On international with QF or EK it’s more like 99%, although very recently there is occasionally just a brief visit towards the end of the flight to hand over express card

I was travelling on a domestic QF flight with my WP partner recently and she was upgraded to J at the gate. There was still room in J and she asked if I could be upgraded too. That was a big ask and not accepted but she managed to have a glass of red sent back to me with a couple of packets of snacks.
Wow!!

MrsQS has been in F several times when I was in J. As soon as she boarded not a single visit, no freebies, nothing!!:(

I told them that today was my birthday

I’m the opposite. They know when my birthdate is. So I don’t mention it. Only travelled with QF once on birthday but already in F (award) on that day. Nothing special occurred apart from a “Happy Birthday”

I have never asked for anything, the many times i have travelled in Y

I have asked for my shirt to be ironed in SYD DOM J lounge - apparently a common request.

Come on people

No one has requested to be able to use higher class cabin’s Toilets?

On a QF flight from HKG in Y i was waiting to use the Y toilet. The CSM saw me on his way through the cabin, as a WP he had greeted me earlier. When he came back a minute later i was still waiting. He said to go through the curtain into F and just tell them he had sent me to use the toilet. So i did. It was a nice gesture. So not requested but it was offered.

Generally hated behaviour! They offered you the meal to get rid of you.

Would have been easier if they had said that... not going back to my seat at that stage unless there's turbulence as it's not going to be comfortable, and I don't like pressing the call button, but I understand where you're coming from. On that flight I was actually having a good chat, Head of Y Cabin, Purser, CSM and later a First Host.

That said, the meal was offered because I couldn't eat anything from the Y meal options... with new braces in my mouth at the time it was easier to avoid certain food.

I have that locked away next time I fly Y

"Um excuse me, DYKWIA?. unfortunately I am unable to eat the Y carp because I recently had dental work and the dentist says I am only to eat food which I am usually accustomed to. Would you mind only to give me J food please":cool::cool:

I think if I'd been witty enough to say something like that they would have told me no. G&T helps with teething though! :p

My best was asking the CSM for an upgrade to J on a SYD-LAX flight and being given it. It also happened on the return flight a couple of weeks later. :) I should add that this was just a couple of weeks after 9/11 when not that many were flying. The flights were no more than one third full. There had been a number of upgrades at the gate but I did not score one there. It was the days when flyers were thanked for their loyalty in these difficult times. Oh, it may have been marginally relevant too that the CSM was my cousin. :)

I think I'm shooting myself in the foot for preferring a window seat over an aisle. Generally when the FA leans over to ask what meal/drink I'd like as much as I'd appreciate a glass of J red (and would ask quietly if on the aisle) when sitting on the window I don't think it's the right thing to do if the pax in the middle/aisle are not also WP or above.

Many years ago I turned up at SYD for a flight to NZ (WLG I think) and was given the news that I had been upgraded to J. Problem was ..... my girlfriend wasn't (I think we were on different PNRs for some reason). I politely declined the request, but without any prompting the agent said "Hang on - let me take a look". She then handed both of us J boarding passes.

I felt at the time that if I had been pushy it would probably not have resulted in the same outcome.

I've been SG through cheap seat travel for long enough to really appreciate when the senior person comes back, says "hi" and asks if there's anything they can do. I have two requests: the bigger blanket, and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Enough of the time I get both, and that's delightful but by no means expected or demanded. Sometimes I get more. If pushed: a decent shot of single-malt or a real coffee goes down really well.

IF I was travelling J and had paid for it, I would not be particularly impressed that the CSM and business team were spending time servicing pax who chose (and pay) to fly Y. Fortunately that scenario is quite rare, so no need to write a paragraph to Qantas about it. [ You know - as a footnote to the demand that they broadcast Fox News on all flights to bogan destinations.]

QF chooses its service levels and how to use the CSM's time. J already had a dedicated crew to cater to their whims and I see no reason why the CSM wouldn't be pampering a loyal Y pax any less than a loyal J pax.
