Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Anyone know if bid nows to Premium Economy are available? I've never seen it - even on a flight with PE, Bid Now only offers Economy to Business.
Qantas does this annoying thing where you can't bid directly to Premium Economy. They first make you place a bid for Business, and on the confirmation screen for that, they will let you place a second bid for PE. The way they present it is "If you're business upgrade fails, you can add a backup plan by also bidding for PE".

Do you have to bid more for business?
I will go back to my wandering?

Any recent success or failure on bid requests Y->J on QFi?

I have a classic reward points booking SYD-SIN//SIN-PER-SYD and was able to put in Classic points upgrade requests for each sector (not great value I know) but also paid bid requests for each.

For coughs and giggles I took the min $ bid for each:
SYD-SIN: $710 (A330) - the max bid is $4250 🙀
SIN-PER: $460 (A330) - max bid $2750
PER-SYD: $375 (737) - yeah, screwed up that one. Thought it was an A330 day….

Thoughts?

A lot braver than me and probably why I don’t play the upgrade game.
Unless there is 100% chance of a upgrade I’m just paying cash upfront. The thought of being stuck in Y for even a domestic flight scares me

This is a pseudo status run. PC member earn SCs on award flights - pro-rata the earn rate skews in favour to whY but besides that, there hasn’t been J award SYD<->SIN since flights restarted and certainly no decent “Sale” fares to speak of.

I used to do SYD-PER monthly in whY. So I reckon I’ll survive SIN-PER // PER-SYD ok but SYD-SIN (even in the front row of whY) could be awful. Alas, premium cabins to/from Oz on most flights are full.

So no joy on the Bids.
QF81 25/7 was chockers - I actually put in for a points upgrade after hearing about the SYD T1 security lines and priority only for F/J BP holders. But that was a fail also. At least I was able to score 23K with no baby riding shotgun.

QF72 28/7 - unfortunately I’ll never know if this low ball bid would have worked because I put in a successful points upgrade request after a T-80 mixup or possibly while I was still on the first flight with no wifi - the front of the whY cabin filled up somehow while I wasn’t looking….😡

QF650 29/7 - Fail. Upgrades ex-PER can be a bit like unicorns but a 738 in lieu of a A330 didn’t help.

This article appeared just before I left. I hadn’t realised that not everyone nor every flight gets these “Bid now” offers. Probably e plains why this thread has less activity to the “Success/Fail Points Upgrade“ thread?

In the past, I’ve usually ignored the emails inviting to bid for an upgrade but given that this was already a points itinerary, I thought I’d try my luck. The article also mentions being able to bid a combo of $s and Points. I only got the options for $s on each sector.

Anyone have any idea of what a good bid would be (using points) for QF 11 Sydney to Los Angeles premium economy to business class?

Anything less than the classic upgrade fee of 49,100 (from standard Y+), I'd say... was it a non-upgradeable fare type? Classic upgrades will clear ahead of the Bid Now upgrades.

Award booking for premium economy.
Ahh - didn't think about that fare type... That's 73,500 for an upgrade award from Y+ to J, so I guess anything less than that sees you better off in terms of points possibly used, but again you'd remain in the queue on upgrade inventory left after the classics are all cleared.

If you're OK staying where you are, you could just put in a cheeky minimum, or the classic award points booking difference from Y+ to J, which is 27,100, and hope for the best. If I had the points to burn, I'd go for the standard request as it gives you a better chance.

Cheers,
Matt.

Seems you can't bid just points. It's points plus cash.

The minimum cash varies with the points selected. Here's an example, but you can't actually bid $0 and just points.

Would be interesting to know how much extra the 'charges & Q fees' are from a premium economy vs business seat? Since Q will not allow points to be used to cover them, nor $50 apology e-voucher.

Not a lot of difference between them - less than A$50. Example below is 28 Apr 2023 if someone is searching for a J award :)

Cheers,

I was shocked to see how low those fees & charges are (for any class). I'd expected that AJ would have increased the fuel surcharges massively - he's getting slow in his old age.

... and I think you mean April 2023.

yes - 2023 - oops, correcting now

Can someone tell me if you get a bid now upgrade to J, do you get J ff points and sc? Or do you get the points of the original booking?

I was invited to make a bid

Interesting figures the same for points but add $80

I ended up with a classic upgrade instead same points no cash
J class fare saving $2,163

the business cabin is FULL

I could not find the zero points option as disussed in Matt Graham's article. I have curently six offers for upgrade, 2 intl and 4 dom, all have minimum points.

You set points to 0 (at least I did when throwing in a bid on SIN-MEL next year)...
