I'm heading to BKK in a few weeks, and will be celebrating a birthday with a 0 in it

I was thinking I'll treat myself and thought it would be nice to have a few days in a hotel that has a great pool. Think marina sands in singapore.

Let me know of your experiences.

Dont think you can match MBS

Bangkok..
VIE Hotel M Gallery - pool high up with great views, but very close to public bar area
New aloft Soi 11 has a nice but small pool on a 7th storey deck
Peninsula - also meant to be amazying

For my Singapore answer:::::
Marina Sands is probably the only one in the 'amazing' category

The newish Fullerton Bay is pretty special as well.

St Regis and Grand Hyatt have nice pools with good lounge chair areas

Sure there would be some good ones on Sentosa as well

Depends on your definition of an amazing pool (as I haven't been to the one referred to above). The Millennium hilton has a pool bar with an infinity pool overlooking BKK.

The Banyan Tree has a pool on the 21st floor that is not bad.

Can second the Peninsula. The Oriental is also supposed to be amazing, but felt a bit busy to us and also both have no roof pool. The Pen pool is pretty nice though, right by the river with some great views across it.

The Pullman King Power has a moderately high roof pool and is a nice self contained complex with significant variety for a longer stay, and a nice exec floor - so those Accor Plat promos come in handy.

Everyone raves about SGS so I imagine that must be pretty great too.

I recently stayed at the lebua state (the hotel they used in the Hangover II) while i didnt see much of the pool, the rooms were amazing and massive, i highly recommend anyone going to Bangkok to stay there

On the flip side for those budget conscious travellers, I stayed at the Citadines Sukhumvit before and quite liked the pool. High floor, side wall exposed to the Bangkok city skyline, beautiful watching the purple sunset.

I would go with the St Regis Bangkok. It's a beautiful, almost brand new hotel with an absolutely stunning pool area. It has a big infinity pool on the 15th floor, overlooking the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, the city skyline, and the sunset.

Here's a photo I took on NYE:

Some others have uploaded pretty good photos to TripAdvisor.

I think the St Regis Bangkok would be the closest thing in town to the Marina Sands and what you're looking for. I am staying here now and will be spending the day by the pool if you have any questions!

I didn't think the Banyan Tree Bangkok Pool was that great at all. And the Banyan Tree is in a pretty boring area.

St Regis looks very nice - while it was being constructed we stayed down the road at the Hansar, which also has a mid-level pool but without those incredible views, and has some other things going for it for a longer stay.

St Regis really is very nice. It's only about 100m away from the Hansar, but IMHO the St Regis's has a big advantage in location due to its uninterrupted 270 degree views over the golf course and the city skyline. And it has an airconditioned walkway to the Skytrain.

Here's a photo from the door to the bedroom of our suite:

Having said that, the Hansar looks great and I have heard good things about it. Can I ask, does the hotel include the very tall building behind the entrance, or is it only the much shorter building above the entrance?

Yes, agree that the St Regis location is fantastic, right by the BTS too - even the short walk down the soi from the Hansar is a bit annoying, especially given the lack of a proper footpath.

Yes, that building is partly residential and partly the hotel. Most of the regular suites are in this 'residential' part of the hotel, with the views across the club, while the larger suites are in the smaller building (though I don't think the hotel itself goes beyond the top of the smaller building). I did a trip report about it here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-and-trip-photos/tr-mel-bkk-mel-jq-29080.html

It's a different kind of hotel to the St Regis and others - more of a boutique hotel / furnished apartment. Some of the larger / vertigo suites have some really fantastic design elements to them, and they all have very generously proportioned bathrooms and living spaces, as well as the internal hanging garden. The spa, restaurants, pool etc are very nice and benefit from a modern aesthetic, but they're not quite in the same class as a high-end hotel such as the St Regis (or the Pen / MO, for that matter). Having said that, we stayed just after it opened and benefitted from some extremely generous soft-open rates, which were much better bang for buck - not sure whether the current rates hold up as well when compared to what you get from the other hotels. :)

(Sorry for the OT)

Great trip report! The food at the Hansar looks great. Sounds like a very comfortable place to hang for longer stays in Bangkok...

We stayed at the Millennium Hilton not long after opening. Loved the pool deck that looked down onto the Chao Phraya and across to the Royal Orchid Sheraton. Very cool vintage boats to take you across the river and down to the BTS.

Quite a few photos around pool in our trip blog on travelpod, search under aussiepanda and then choose R&R thai style

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Will have to see what last minute deals I can get :D

The St Regis certainly looks like a winner.

I'm here now and swam a few laps in it last night. Very enjoyable. Off to the Conrad this afternoon.

I've swum in the pools of the Millenium Hilton,Peninsula,Royal orchid sheraton and SGS none are really that great. The first 3 are good for laps.not so the SGS.I liked the Conrad but again nothing fancy and between the hotel and Residences so no view but often shaded which is sometimes a blessing in BKK.
Must try the St.Regis.We have our second stay for the year in december and even now the SGS is showing no availability so might be a time to try something different. For us the ease of getting the Skytrain is all important.

Since it is a special occasion reserve the Bentley airport transfer ;)

The St Regis certainly looks like a winner.

From the FT/SPG/threads:-

Airport Pick Up – We were emailed by the butler a week in advance of our stay asking if we would need airport pick up – the choices were Mercedes S class (THB 2900), Bentley (THB4000) and Toyota commuter. There were four of us so I requested two Mercedes S class. We were met outside the airport by two hotel staff who took our bags and escorted us to our cars.

Just spent 3 nights at The Pen last week......the pool is brilliant.

It's actual three pools connected by wet edge waterfalls, running down to the river therefore, everyone gets a view.....would have to be around 70m+ if not more. There is also a large outdoor hot tub.

Even when the place is packed it's easy to find a lounge.....there are also 12 cabanas that are free and we have always been able to use one over our 5 visits.

Some photos from The Pen....these were taken a few ago when we were still excited staying there. After a few visits, you stop taking photos! Everything still looks the same.

The first one shows the view looking towards the MO - not the best pool IMO.

The other one shows only 1/2 of the The Pen pool.
