We've recently had 3 Christmases in Southern Europe and found it perfectly comfortable, beats the heat mentioned here and definitely the crowds. But we deliberately stayed south ..... UK in winter doesn't do much for me!

Thanks for the excellent TR biba - handy for our Portugal/Spain trip in March. +1 for shoulder season travel to avoid extreme weather and crowds.
