Well I am currently in the Perth dom QP and it is like a zoo. A delayed MEL flight and a delayed SYD flight. 80 people standing as no seats. queues 8 deep at the bar, no food, and now an announcement for pax to remove bags and jackets from seats so some more people can sit down.

The whole dom terminal is far too small for Qantas nowadays.

I wouldn't expect things to be improving any time soon.

Well PBOjust boarded, which emptied the lounge alot, so many WP's and SG'`s from the FIFO on the mines.

Besides Garth Tandaer, the WA boy has won in the mighty holden.

QF768 originally due to board at 1455, delayed til 1515, then 1545, and now 1700, got to love those maintenance guys. A minor hydraulic leak, becomes a major one. But hey, I would rather not have a problem in the air. So go for it guys.

which aircraft has the hydraulic problem? IS it 767 "XF"? That delayed me travelling from CNS to MEL a couple Sundays ago and I notice it was a hydraulic problem that disrupted a MEL-SYD flight recently...

PM - I'm not that scared (paranoid) as some people of Qantas trcking down who I am, but thankyou for the option

I am on (sorry hope to be on) QF768 PER-MEL on the 2/12/07 assuming we get a takeoff in the next 7 hours otherwise it will be on the 3rd.

Well its past 1700, no boarding, no announcment and screens stilll showing boarding at 1700.:(

Plane just gone unservicable, supposidly QF776 is full, so we have all been booked onto the midnight flight.

Bummer. Rotten time to be leaving. However it can be made an extremely quick flight by really enjoying the QP "hospitality" - last time (in fact the only time) I flew it I was asleep before we left terra firma and woke about 5 minutes before landing in MEL. ;)

They offered everyone that lives in Perth, taxi vouchers to get home. The queue to the service desk extended out the door, and everyone was doing the DYKWIA and I have to get on the 1810 flight etc. I live an hour out of Perth, so I am satying put.

Staying put in the, I assume. Ouch, that delay is going to hurt. I hate the red-eyes and when you make specific plans to avoid it, it hurts even more to end up with it.

Depending on travel insurance (if applicable) this sort of delay would sometimes kick into "Travel Delay Domestic" territory. 4 hours triggers one of my policies.

If that happened to me, I'd be grabbing a taxi voucher, heading into Perth City and spending up big on a very nice dinner (up to $500 based on my reading of the policy), then returning to the airport much later, and then taking advantage of the QP bar.

The age of the 767's are requiring more maintenance according to a mate working in the area for Qantas. All due to the A380's and the growth in flights.
He is delighted, there overtime has been the highest its been for the last 6 months compared to previous years.

Also possible that the crew has gone (or will go before getting to MEL) out of hours.

Due to a conscious decision on the part of the Qantas board to age the fleet. Even if the A380 had come on time, they'd still have 767's flying around.

Nothing wrong with old airframes as long as you keep the maintenance into them. :p

The RAAF has been gradually pensioning off the 707's, so maybe QF could buy a few of them back. :D

Yes, but at some point you get to a point where the maintenance costs become considerable, and perhaps more importantly your reliability gets brought into question.

I'm sure that the poor staffers behind the desk found that very helpful in prioritising who got on the 1810 flight and who didn't:rolleyes:.
