Due to a conscious decision on the part of the Qantas board to age the fleet. Even if the A380 had come on time, they'd still have 767's flying around.

And because they are assigning the first batch of 787s to DEATHSTAR!!!

Plane just gone unservicable, supposidly QF776 is full, so we have all been booked onto the midnight flight.

Bad luck, Reggie, I do hope that you have now made it safely over eastside and managed some sleep...

11/11 QF703 VH-ZXG - Sch 12:25 - 16:45, Act - 13:40 - 17:46
02/12 QF768 VH-OGI - Sch 15:15 - 20:45, XLD (~7:15pm)

FWIW OGI flew positioning PER-MEL this morning as QF6111 and even then it landed 28 minutes late at 8:48am. It has some limited ops today and is not currently scheduled for tomorrow.

But not ALL of them..

The Leased Ex BA 767's (VH-ZX's) were to be returned early last year.

Remember, the Qantas A380 delivery program is nearly 2 years behind schedule.

Wonder if anyone was put on the DJ 18:05 flight? In the days of AN, used to be quite a flow of pax during cancellations etc, but suspect this is not the case any more.

Generally one had to be on a "Full Fare" to do this. Was not ucommon back then, fares were relatively expensive and flexible fare were not that much more.

Such transfers were simple as fares tended to be exactly the same between the 2 carriers with their cosy little "2 Airline" system.

The RAAF has been gradually pensioning off the 707's, so maybe QF could buy a few of them back. :D
Well they just did buy back an old Qantas 707 ;) . Maybe they should fly that to PER?

I don't know why but I dislike the 767 more and more each time I fly in one. Not sure if it is related to the age or condition of the cabin....

Could be the condition of the cabin. I recently flew in a JL 767 and it was a much more pleasant looking cabin.

What is the current plan for the 767 fleet? Presumably the "-X-" series will go first and the "-G-" series last longer? What will replace them?

Staying put in the, I assume. Ouch, that delay is going to hurt. I hate the red-eyes and when you make specific plans to avoid it, it hurts even more to end up with it.

Well staying put in the lounge was a good idea, they started calling individual people by name, and then mine came up. So I wandered over to the desk, through the long line of those trying to rebook etc, and was told Mr Reggie, we have a seat for you on the 6.10 service but it is in economy would you like it. I thought midnight in J or 6.10 in WHY, and went with the WHY. The staffer then sia dshe had booked me into an isle exit row, but would hold off until all J pax had checked in, just in case a seat became available.

Then we were sent to go and find our checked bags, so they could be moved across to the 6.10. Thus in all the rush to do this and board I had no time to update.

Depending on travel insurance (if applicable) this sort of delay would sometimes kick into "Travel Delay Domestic" territory. 4 hours triggers one of my policies.

If that happened to me, I'd be grabbing a taxi voucher, heading into Perth City and spending up big on a very nice dinner (up to $500 based on my reading of the policy), then returning to the airport much later, and then taking advantage of the QP bar.

Mmmm interesting idea, but didn't get to try it this time around:rolleyes:

I'm sure that the poor staffers behind the desk found that very helpful in prioritising who got on the 1810 flight and who didn't:rolleyes:.

I think decision had been made prior to the announcement of the unservicable plane. It appeared to be done in order of CL, WP in J, WP in Y, SG and so on. All remaining seats had been blocked straight away.

Got into hotel at 12:30 and had to be opn road by 8.00am so no chance for AFF responses or email reading at all. Some dark rings under my eyes.

Now I see why Simongr wants out of Y.:( I still think better than midnight flight, but on longer flights it would be hell.

As I recall (dim dark past stuff) you could take a TN ticket across to AN and they would swap it for one of theirs. Any small delay would be a satisfactory reason.

The red-eye "midnight" flight was operated by VH-EBY (a 743); R U able to sleep on Dreamtime?

The issue would have bee the interupted 3 hours of sleep. Wouldn't have been able to slepp before flight, and wouldn't have been able to sleep on arrival as I would be worried about not waking up.

Once was deplaned from a QF BAe 146 at LST (enroute to MEL), and whilst I was in the QC busy making an online booking on the AN flight that was about to depart (curiosly AN allowed internet bookings right up to cutoff) they announced the QF flight was cancelled and were rebooking us onto the AN flight anyway (I was on a discount ticket, and it was in 2001, so by then the fare structures had started to stray from each other).
