Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Well this page shows the Asset allocation of the Fed Govt Comsuper.

They haven’t shown the listed / unlisted splits
Equity for example is
43% listed
10.5% unlisted

That’s nearly 54% of the entire investment

It’s a long term average of 7-9% annual earnings

Does anyone know of a superannuation fund which allows you to put your contributions into gold? (the shiny stuff not a mine). With Trump in the White House and what looks like four years of chaos ahead it seems that investing in gold might be sensible!

Only SMSF. No Superfund allows you to direct it into a specific asset.

"Good time to buy gold" - for the sellers. There are people who would happily sell it to you.😉

Actually, there are some public offer funds that may have gold-only investment options, but finding them a needle in the haystack.

There are certainly ETF’s that are gold only funds.

Now that I'm at work, looking at Lonsec (an investment ratings house to which I subscribe), I can confirm my comment above is correct.

For example, here is a summary of a retail research report that came out on Friday, the fund that may be accessible through the various platforms (this is merely one option and there are more that you should research and consider):

State Street Gold Fund
Recommendation Change: — / APIR: SST4481AU
The Fund has retained its 'Recommended' rating. The Fund represents a cost-effective means of gaining exposure to the gold price without the necessity of holding, trading and storing physical gold bullion. Additionally, the Fund's fees are viewed as very competitive in the gold peer group. However, the Fund has a limited track record having launched in July 2024. Additionally, the feeder fund structure adopted by the Fund has the potential to lead to heightened tracking risk.

I've been quietly watching my little stash grow with work contributions and investments but my heart skipped a beat this morning when I noticed ~2% of my funds disappear into thin air.

The 8%-9% growth the past few years has been nice but cannot afford dips like this one if I'm retiring and taking a pension in 3-4 years.

That's reality. The AllOrds dipped 2% in last couple of days. No one can say they can afford drops.

Anyone else angry with HESTA right now?

Agreed - probably some more pain to come too until the craziness stops.

What has HESTA gone and done?

They are moving their platform in mid April and no one will have any visibility over their superannuation portfolio, nor be able to take out lump sums, for 6 weeks! Those on pension draw down will get three fortnight pays in mid April and then nothing again until it's up and running again. Only found out last Monday. The Ombudsman is taking enquires about it.

It sounds like the Qantas IT team have side jobs!
