Surprise! You've turned Gold!

I just received an email from VirginAmerica about golden flights. Ooooh, I thought. But Alas. Anyway we're happy we looked into status credit, lounge things, and whether 310 scs from qff is attainable. Nope: so we're off with Jetabroad's 15% off hotel rooms and webjet's $400 discount. At least something positive came of this.

The head of Virgin Blue's loyalty program has revealed there were tears in their office after staff realised they had mistakenly sent a upgrade offer to more than one million members.

I hope they dry their eyes soon.

Coming home for xmas, POM-BNE 23/12. Yay! :)

Got enough QFF SCs back to retain SG with 5 months to spare, no hope of making WP so SCs not an issue.

Fare choices were QF WHY at a ridiculous price, PX WHY at an absurd price, DJ WHY for silly money also, or premium Y for $45 more. Well, WHY not?

Pretty easy choice really. My first DJ booking in 12 months. All based on how much you pay and what you get for your money. Oh, and PX's reputation for overbooking at Xmas a minor factor. Never even thought about the Gold email fiasco when booking, even tho I'd already posted on this thread.

Cheers skip

LOL. Virgin America just emailed saying "Our mistake ... our golden sale is still on'. Someone needs a stiff drink and a Bex.

Re: Virgin Comped me Gold Velocity

I sent an email to Virgin and told them I am Qantas gold and them comped me Gold to Dec 2011. I had to scan a copy of my gold card and send it to them

Congrats, seems better than just comping every Tom, Richard and Harry. Maybe I should scan my brand spanking new card, but meh, Priority Pass gets me into the lounges :)

From the October Statement:

We'd like to apologise for a genuine mistake which occurred last week that left many Members confused, and us red-faced.

You may have received an email informing you that your Status had been upgraded to Gold. Unfortunately, that information was incorrect, and we're truly sorry for any disappointment the email caused.

After speaking with many of our Members, and listening to all their feedback, we'd like to clear the air and let you know what happened. The problem was caused by a process error, which was identified and fixed, and will not happen again. We'd like to assure you that our data security was never compromised, and your personal details were and are safe.

We remain committed to delivering you the best possible loyalty program in which all Members are rewarded, regardless of your Status.

We value your Membership and look forward to helping you enjoy many great rewards with Velocity in the future.

Sincerely

Brett Godfrey
Chief Executive Officer - Virgin Blue Airlines

So did any of the high-Silver members actually get comped to Gold in the end??

Yep, received an email this morning with my October activity statement which included an apology for the previous mistake and confirmed my upgrade to Gold.

It's very nice as I am within a few hundred points of earnng it however I would of missed about due to my review date coming up soon.

Cheers
Dave.

Likewise. I'd be high silver or maybe gold if my joining date was different and if the cancelled Mel-LA flights didn't put make me choose others like AirNZ. (Enduring Sydney is too much to bear). Anyway, the price was right and I'll keep an eye out for webjet's sale this Sunday. The last one, with 20% off if you paid with paypal, sure made a family holiday to NZ very affordable.

Being a gold member already, mine read a little differently (underlined by me):

You may have received an email informing you that your Status had been upgraded to Gold, followed by another email asking you to disregard the upgrade. Of course, we recognise that you are already a Gold Status Member and we are truly sorry for the confusion.

"we'd like to clear the air and let you know what happened. The problem was caused by a process error"

I'm not sure that just saying it's a process error is really 'clearing the air and letting me know what happened!' In fact, more the opposite.

I am very happy with the apology email received today with the latest statement today. Why do people want to pursue further action to try and get something they are clearly not entitled to get? Because of a simple error.

Greed, greed, greed. Let it go and move on with life....

I got the same "You're still gold" email as Wallacej.

Interesting to note that i was in the MEL Lounge on Thursday night at about 7pm and it was the busiest i've ever seen it. Admittedly i mostly get morning flights out of MEL so i am not an expert on activity at this time. In part probably due to some backed up flights but i wouldn't be surprised if there's been a spate of upgrades and one-off comp passes of late?

Anyone else noted a lot more lounge activity in other cities and at other times?

Personally, I didn't care whether I got Gold or not. I was happy to just forget the whole thing. Yet, they insist on dragging the issue back up...

If this latest email said something that we didn't know, then yes, perhaps it was worth it. However, the email said nothing that wasn't already said - a total waste of time.

The problem was caused by 'a process error'...? Really...? Duh... BTW, I'm afraid they've probably jinxed themselves - something like this will probably happen again... :)

At least the boo boo made me look into the mysteries of status. If I'd known more, I might've flown VA more often. C'est la vie.

I received a (to paraphrase) "You're still Red - sorry" email. I smiled to myself, noted I still have 1950 velocity points and filed the em.

I never received the email however I've been close to gold since its inception and very frustrating I can't get there :(

I think GFC did it for me this year....... silver for 2010 here i come......again.

Didn’t get a second apology email. Didn’t realise this thread was still going.

Anyone else noted a lot more lounge activity in other cities and at other times?

A little, but I’m attributing it to the Christmas period.

To be fair, it is a big step above Silver to get there.
