Ease of earning status is really dependant upon class of travel undertaken. Longhaul 1st and business class travel will enable getting to QF Platinum quickly. e.g. 1 r/t tp Europe in 1st class can renew platinum status
If travelling economy class, then AA can be much better for earning and maintaining status. 1 r/t to JFK using discount economy fares would earn 120 SCs round trip ( or 8.57% of the requirement for Platinum earning / 10% renewal ) whilst the 19,900 base miles earned flying AA is 19.9% of the requirements for Executive Platinum
Plus of course, AA does have Candy Stealing options to assist in the higher mileage earnings so can be a lot better than QF even living in Australia
Also depends on where you will fly and with which airline in order to experience the improved treatment. If you mostly travel QF domestic, then LAN Commodore or AA EXP is not going to offer anything above standard OneWorld Emerald benefits.
However, if regularly travelling to, within and from the LOTFAP, then holding AA status can make for plenty of good upgrade experiences.
