Hi All, I am looking at going to London is J later in the year. When booking from the CX UK site I can pick up LHR-CNS for £3000 return which is excellent. I can't get the same price from the AU site? If I booked ex LHR could I swap the dates to make the journey start in CNS? Thanks Brad330.

I was told in a recent thread that this can't be done. But I would also like to know whether it's just assumed or whether it's in the ticket T&Cs. I will have to dig up an old ticket & check. If it's not on the T&Cs I don't see why you couldn't book a fully changeable return fare ex-LHR with the CNS-LHR leg when you really want it & the LHR-CNS leg for some earlier day. Then later change the latter to the date you'll really fly that leg.

I have a feeling, however, that we are both in a dreamland bubble, and it won't be long before someone confirms that all airline T & Cs state that itineraries must depart from original departure point or some such..

Basic answer - no.

Longer answer - Airlines price fares according to the market they are selling in and what the customers will pay. They believe Australians will pay more than those in the UK for what is effectively the same trip. The only way to access this particular fare is to start in London.

I doubt a "fully changeable" J fare would be that cheap anyway...

..and I believe this would be covered in the T's & C's by a change of origin requiring reticketing (and thus repricing) as I am pretty sure all tickets require each leg to be flown in sequence...

Many folks use these cheaper fares.... for multiple trips... often getting over to start the first cycle on points/miles.

The requirement to fly in sequence is normallly in the Conditions of Carriage. For CX:

COUPON SEQUENCE
3.3.1 The Ticket you have purchased is valid only for the transportation as shown on the Ticket, from the place of departure via any Agreed Stopping Places to the final destination. The fare you have paid is based upon our Tariff and is calculated on the basis of the entire journey shown on the Ticket. It forms an essential part of our contract with you. The Ticket will not be honoured and will lose its validity if the Coupons (or flights mentioned in the Ticket) are not used in the sequence provided in the Ticket. For example, where you commence your journey at any stopover or agreed stopping place.

and
Please be aware that while some types of changes will not result in a change of fare, others, such as changing the place of departure (for example if you do not fly the first segment) or reversing the direction you travel, can result in an increase in price. Many fares are valid only on the dates and for the flights shown on the Ticket and may not be changed at all, or only upon payment of an additional fee.

Doing so almost always mean the ticket will be reissued from the new origin, in the currency used in the origin. In most cases, the cost of doing so would make you wish that you never bought the ticket in the first place.
