Couldn't find an answer to this.
What's the best way to switch FF number on a QR booking?

I want to use my qantas WP for seat selection but collect VA status credits (and miles)

You cannot - if your Qantas status is higher than Virgin, for example, and one allows seat selection, the moment you change your FF details, you will lose seat selection! Ask me how I know (and found out the hard way!

Actually, to be fair you can do this after you have checked in, but note the return would lose whatever seat selection you had. You ten collect the points, change back to the original FF, choose whatever seats are remaining (and likely lesser choice) and do the same FF swap after check in again.

Thanks this is exactly what I need to know. Looks like I’m in for some fun at the check in desk at CGK. On the way back I can do it at the lounge/gate in DOH, my first segment is a codeshare on BA which I’ll want to credit to QF.

I did it last year for a family trip on Qatar in Dec - booked and used my QR Platinum to choose seats. Then changed it a few months later to Virgin once the partnership was up and running and my chance, found out about 4 weeks later that all seat bookings had been removed the moment I changed away from QR Plat, even though I am also Virgin Platinum. Changed it back, went to choose the same seats and was fortunate for three of the four flights we could get what we wanted (family of 6 travelling). The first leg was all messed up, so went to QR customer care to ask for help. Tried four separate times - each time they 'sent an email to the ticketing team requesting it' anything. That has been my experience with Qatar - great product and service but the only place they fail - in my experience very badly - is customer service after the effect. This is virtually non-existent and they just do not care. I did three international flights Aus - UK last year with them and doubt I'll fly with them again because of this after-care

A common opinion of the ME3:- very good the air, but poor on the ground/back office/phone

They also have this thing where they give you Avios (for Privilege Club) a few hours before you fly, so i saw the Avios points already in the lounge. I tried to switch from Privilege Club to Velocity in the lounge (to get the seat selection with Privilege Gold and to get some status credits with Velocity) but I must've tried too late - didn't work.

my QF/OW status was not printed on the BP, even though QF number was the in booking and got points in my QF account upon landing. This meant upon entry to QF First lounge had to dig out physical FF card...
Still got OW recognition from CSM onboard which is matched by EK (more than you get on QF)...

Can you still get the extra baggage that you would usually get with Qatar Silver or Gold Avios, provided that you have another FF number on your booking (example Velocity FF)?

I found that there is a (slight) time lag in losing the seat selection from changing from QF Plat to VA - so my advice is to load QF Plat number into booking, and choose seats for no charge.

Prior to checking in online or at airport go into app and change FF numbers - if you are doing this just prior to check in the QF Plat seats should stick. If you leave it a few hours between changing FF numbers and checking in, the seats will be lost.

When I mean just prior, I mean literally doing it whilst in the physical queue to checking in...

Thank you. Qatar airways confirmed that if you present you QR Avios privilege card at the airport, you can get the extra baggage, even if you have another FF on your booking. So what will work ( please confirm) is changing the FF at online check-in time (or better at the counter after online checkin)?
So:
1- check in online with QR FF so I can lock the seats in.
2- Change the QR FF at the counter to Velocity FF for points/credits.
3- Present Avios Card for additional baggage (which is not usually a benefit of Velocity FF)

ideally to avoid arguments with VA you want to have the BP issued with your VA number on it and then take a photo of the BP before the stub part which contains the VA number is taken by some staff at boarding

Spot on. happened to me before. Thanks legend!

Am I corrext that the QR app has been updated to remove the ability to change FF numbers? I am Platinum in both QFF and VA and cannot add either to a QR booking for seat reservation purposes. QR CS cannot help - policy change!

Have you tried the website? It’s buried in there somewhere.

They introduce 2FA authentication a few months ago (probably because of the widely reported hacking of FF points) but at least it’s more secure but as a result, you can’t pull up a QR PNR on another OW website MMB. So those old tricks don’t work.

I couldn’t change my booking from a QR number to a VA number in February. I called and I also tried at the lounge but they said it wasn’t possible. However, I was able to get them to delete the QR status credits and points after the flight and get them re-credited to VA.
