Unfortunately I was unable to get a direct flight on Etihad, and have been routed through Melbourne. Also unfortunate there was not a lot of explaining done.

Has anyone had this experience before? I am flying F, do I have to bag collect and recheck in Melbourne? And what about my lounge options in Sydney?

Cheers

In Sydney you have a domestic flight to Melbourne on Virgin Australia, so you access the domestic Virgin Lounge.
Your bags are through checked through to AUH.
In Melbourne you can access the Air New Zealand international lounge.

I'm flying from Perth to London on Etihad and I debated actually going via Melbourne to get the extra SC's as it was a extra $20 each way. Though common sense prevailed as stuck with the "direct" via AUH flight.

Are you on the 777 or A380 out of MEL (A380 from June). You're in for a treat if you got on the A380 (They're operating both post-June, so be sure to check).

Obviously you are in the wrong forum. On this forum, common sense dictates flying through MEL for the extra SC and extra time at the pointy end :)
