Looking at a BAM Beer, BS and Boys trip for Christmas drinks. Be a few railway guys on this one similar to the one a couple of years back.

Dec 21, dep Sydney around 2pm return to Sydney 23:50 (midnight) with dinner at the Robertson pub.

Same deal as before with a bit of BYO, I’ll put some some beers on board and a donation to a cause.

And because this is in second to the Melb get together we’re the B team on this occasion. Hanging with the B team isn’t for everyone.

I'm interested. Certainly a chance I could pull something like this off. Two key points would be that you can confirm it is definitely happening before I book tickets, and that the departure is after midday... as that gives me plenty of wriggle room with flights.

Times have been submitted for approval.
Dep 2.06pm Sydney Terminal

I’m committed to going and requests have gone in for relevant approvals.

But as always, subject to the antique equipment behavng.

Bugger, wish I wasn't going away! (although that'll be fun too)

Hope it all goes well. I was looking through some old photos this week and realised it's been 9 years next month since my trip on BAM!

When will you get word back?

6 weeks out, even if the powers that be change the time it would be by less than 20 mins. As long as you dont cut it to fine you’ll be ok. As a last resort can have a 1 sec stop at Wolli Ck for you to step on.

I have tentatively booked a room for that night at the Mercure Sydney (near Central) as I had an Accor Plus credit to use. Will look at flights in the future.

VA has a business class sale fare of $449... Merry Christmas!
I'd be hoping for a total price closer to that... but I have my first VA flight in years coming up on Sunday. The experience will dictate whether there are any future ones.

Not just boys but will be blokey and I don’t want the girls to be offended by train blokes! Will be a quiet car available for those who don’t want to partake of the BBB/S. For this one not attaching to another train, this will be a private train.

Will there be a great big container/impassable space in-between your carriages and the rest of them, as I seem to recall on the first BAM trip?

Probably not on this one, planning a short 3 car train with the BAM as one, CDAY another and third to be worked out. Even thought of something from the railway museum.

But always good to have that steel shipping container between J and Y.

Flying over to PER for Xmas but would be keen for something similar next year!

Train Alteration Advice (to use a rail term) now looking at running direct through from Sydney to Canberra as we did a few years ago. Train still leaves Sydney after lunch and runs through with a dinner stop. That way I can get the cars and loco back to Goulburn workshop, give people Saturday morning to position themselves in Sydney and Sunday to return home.

I'm waiting on the times to come back, Depart Sydney after 2pm.

Matt

Glad I didn’t book my flights early then or I’d be changing them. Looking increasingly unlikely I’ll make this trip. Combination of running out of time and having too much on next year as it is.
