SYD-BNE Sunday July 1st

First post newbie here,

Maybe one of you guys in Brisbane can help me.

I have to shoot up (one way) to Brisbane on Sunday the 1st. I jumped on to grab some <$100 flights, thinking I was booking ahead. Usually a trip up on a Sunday morning will be nice and cheap.

Check out the attachment, Virgin is much the same, $309 Sunday morning... what the?

Does anyone know what's on that weekend? I tried to search google for the answer, but all I could come up with was a hockey match and a mind body spirit festival.

Whatever it is, I feel like I am missing out.

Maybe it's because it's the beginning of the NSW and VIC school holidays and the middle of the QLD ones!

There is an Aussie rules game between Brisbane and Melbourne on that day. Perhaps some Melbourne fans are choosing cheap connecting fares via Sydney

Sometimes the school holiday flights can be expensive although the recent Qantas sale included the June-July school holiday period with SYD-BNE airfares at $99. Not sure how many of these airfares would have been available though.

I purchased a SYD-BNE flight for 01 July a number of months ago when it was still $117 and I am on an early evening departure.

I find Sundays to be relatively expensive as weekend trippers are coming back home and would prefer to get home at a reasonable hour.
