On a separate note, crazydave98, any chance of a payment option so we can book tickets online, and not have to pay a credit card surcharge?
crazydave98....?? or you prefer to maintain the status quo as it helps to maximise....
Why would DJ provide a payment option that would equate to losing the additional revenue of $3 per sector?

As this surcharge is clearly a profit making scheme and nothing to do with cost recovery the bottom line would suffer and airfares would need to increase if people were given the option to pay for airfares and avoid the "credit card" surcharge.

If you think we make a profit of $3 per sector ask anyone who works in retail what the merchant fees are for cards (particularly Amex & Diners). Let's see now - I bought a singlet for my wife at the SYD T2 Bonds store this morning and they were charging 3% surcharge. Apply the same to an average fare of about $150 that would be $4.50.

I will happily concede it would be preferable for the consumer to charge different surcharges depending on the card but we tried that several years ago and it led to confusion. Just make sure you pay with your Amex to get the most points ;) .

However, I agree that we should also offer a lower cost alternative such as BPay or direct debit. Will have a chat to our Commercial guys to see what's in the pipeline but I may not be able to disclose anything publicly.

cheers

I guess they were just following DJ's lead. Captive audience. Quite smart, really.

Hi there

A press release was handed out on the PQQ flight regarding the 1c fares, OK if you live in SYD or PQQ, anyway i will still be flying tomorrow evening on the way back to MEL, so i will probably miss out.

BTW The QF service to SYD couldn't land at PQQ and was heard carrying out at missed approach due weather at PQQ, leaving the QF pax sitting in the terminal while the DJ flight came and went in the rain.
Was that because of aircraft type?

Good on you Dave for being responsive on this one (as always).
Just make sure that it is BPAY and not the bank transfer system that JQ uses that leaves you wondering when you will be ticketed.

Dave I would be surprised if DJs negotiated merchant fee was more than 1%. How about you just increase your airfares slightly and leave out credit card surcharges alltogether. While we are it increase you airfares a little more and remove fuel surcharges as well.

When it comes to credit card surcharges DJ, and to a lesser extent QF or JQ, is taking cream off the top and it is clearly there for all to see.

I mentioned earlier that I purchased 2 SYD-CBR returns on DJ while they were on special for $192 and was slugged with $12 credit card surcharge. That is 6.25% credit card surcharge. I would be absolutely stuffed if Amex charged you 6.25% for my transactions.

Now if you really want to get into the discussion of credit card surcharges I think you will find most genuine companies include it into their base price. There are many companies, big and small, that I have pleasure in dealing with that do not charge a surcharge for any form of credit card payment, especially Amex. I will continue to do business with them for as long as possible.

Woolworths supermarket, Woolworths petrol, NRMA or IAG Insurance, Coles supermarket, Coles petrol, Liquorland, Target, Kmart, Hilton, Intercontinental Hotels, Best Western, Harvey Norman, D!ck Smith, Bunnings, BP and most petrol stations, British Airways, American Airlines, Qantas NZ Domestic, Qantas International, my local Chinese take aways in Enfield and Earlwood, my local RSL, the golf shop in Penrith, Rebel, RTA, local bottle shops, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Hertz, Greyhound buses, Countrylink trains, Emerald Coaches, most restaurants on the Esplanade in Cairns, SYD duty free, most duty free shops around the world, my regular accommodation place in Thailand. There are many more. If you would like a full list I would be most happy to provide one for you.

Most of these places are very competitive. Business is not just about looking after the bottom line but also keeping customers happy. And yes I do love collecting Amex MR points and my target is another Oneworld RTW with Qantas soon but I may also use some of the Amex MR points on a Velocity redemption to NZ.

Hi there

Don't know if it had anything with aircraft type or crew qualifications, the weather was no different fom the time DJ landed until it departed, WET, low cloud base. With more coughpy weather down the east coast, the flight to Albury and back could be interesting, not sure of the diversion options for ABX considering the deep low that is expected to form of the coast of NSW today, probably Melbourne would be the best option if CBR, SYD and Wagga are weather affected.

At least i'll get home earlier with a divert to MEL

Cheers

Is there a $3 credit card surcharge applied to the $0.01 fare?

That sounds good but what about QF Platinums?

didn't think they would lower themselves so ;)

OK, should have said "gold and above". But thought you never flew with us?

There's too many of them flying in and out of Canberra. More exclusive to make it just gold and silver.

Actually that makes sense - imagine what would happen:
- Oh No, the QP is jam packed again!
- We've got 50 minutes before boarding lets try out the Virgin Lounge with that special offer ...

... so off they go ...

Repeat this for every two W/P's using the CBR QP this evening!

I did my maiden return trip on 9-11 February and will be at it again on 8-9 March. Plus there is another return trip to HBA in May and in the future where the price is right I will definitely consider.

He may have been eligible to check out the Lounge with this offer had he known.
I think I flew a couple of days earlier than the terms of the offer.

Anyway will try out the DJ lounge in CBR early Sunday morning 9 March.
