Well my first trip report, (pics to come later) a case of chasing some warm weather brought me to FNQ and Cairns.

Flight from Sydney was uneventful enough, originally assigned seat 26 A changed that to seat 23 A to get a mini cabin of 2 rows 2*3*2 and with room under the partition dividing J from Y to stretch the legs out..brilliant.
Was originally listed as a breakfast flight (0915 from Syd), but somehow ended up with a lunch service..ended up chosing the Penne Pasta and Vegetables, dessert was a Streets creamy choc ice cream...delicious :)

On time arrival to CNS which is currently undergoing refurbishment, and as such after coming off the aerobridge it is like negoiating a maze, that actually takes you outside of the airport, before coming back in to a glorified demountable that acts as the baggage collection hall.

Returning today on QF 925, currently around 10min delay again with seat 23 A .
Currently in the CNS QP, and rather crowded but managed to get some food and a seat :), only noticeable thing is the lack of seats at the computers.
Return trip report to come...

Sounds good :) The first time I went to Cairns, when getting off on the aerobridge, I was like WOW I'm in a humid oven !!! haha it was a shock to the system !

I didn't think much of CNS QP, but hmmm maybe it's changed ... it was kind of like a JAL lounge lol

It is currently (temporarily) in the old Golden Wing lounge.

The temporary CNS QP is a bit like Rudd's temporary deficit

At what time does temporary become semi-permanent?
When the Airport renovations are finished :!: .... when ever that is.

The new QP is to be located above where the new QF checkin is located.

Supposedly later this year if the signage is to be believed, the QP was ok a little to crowded for my liking but better than dealing with the masses around the gates.

After leaving the QP joined the masses milling around gates 16/17/18, apparently a JQ flight to Melbourne was delayed, and Pax being the sheep they are just stand around. (Really clever when there are another two gates both with flights departing from them in the same group of gates), so the area around the gates looked chaotic thankfully the delayed JQ flight started to board to clear some of the congestion out.

As mentioned earlier QF 925 on the return, about a 20min delay on boarding and no priority boarding called, thankfully managed to find the shorter of the two queues so was able to get my carry on in above my seat.
CNS really is such a scenic airport with the Mountains in the background, and after a short taxi to the take off point we were headed to Sydney via a couple of sharp turns to avoid the Mountains.

Again seat 23 A, but not so peaceful this time despite the mini cabin thanks to a screaming child (it's times like this you wish you could just open the door and drop them out :D)

Lunch was a choice of Beef Masala or Fish, so went for the Beef Masala.
One thing that did annoy me slightly was the FA serving lunch, half way through explaining the choices for lunch to myself and the person sitting next to me a FA from J came in looking for some more VB Cans, which she duly provided with no apology to either of us for turning her attention elsewhere. Prehaps nothing major in the scheme of things but putting aside my FF status would have expected at least a apology for attending to something else, after starting to attend to us.

Touch down in Syd right on 1605, and after a mini tarmac tour back at the gate at 1612.

Along with the vast distances required to walk the CNS rollercoaster to claim your baggage, there's an even longer one when you drop off an Avis car then leg it to the QF check-in, which is the most furthest counters in this new vast building from the entry doors.

I noticed on Thursday that no hot (yellow) food was served at the CNS QP after 4pm (unllike TSV), which sounds like a follow-on to the bar now opening at 2pm.
