Hi i hope i am asking this in the right area i have not used this site before so sorry if i do it wrong.
My questions is. So I've been saving and saving my Velocity points as me and my husband are hoping to go to USA in may we were wanting to fly there Perth - Syd - LA on the 1st of May 2018 and return 6th June. we wanted to do the Syd-LA leg in business with my points when i researched this it said 95,000 point 1 person 1 way so i've been saving to get to 180,000 i currently have 160,000 I went on to the velocity site today signed in just to see what was available and how many points ect, and it was saying like 435,000 points one way any seat business no matter what days i searched all the reward business were sold out and i just don't understand why like how can it be sold out for any date everywhere. Is it because i'm looking on the website would it be different if i spoke to someone, I thought 10 months in the future they wouldn't already be gone. I'm just confused and a bit disappointed as i don't have enough Status to upgrade international flights so that isn't a option for us. Any advice would be great do they open up these seats sooner to departure or it it just u need to be there to buy them the moment they become available .

Thanks in advance :)

Aust-LAX is a popular route, so it is likely that the seats have gone. I haven't booked an award on that route before, but my understanding is that bookings need to made almost as soon as the seats are released.

The 435K point price is a straight out seat purchase with points, the 95K points seats are Reward Seats and they usually only initially release only 2 of these for the flight. They might/sometimes release other reward seats as it gets closer to the flight date but its a cough shoot. Reward Seats get taken very quickly, I think its 11 months out for VA.

Have you thought of trying to get the seat via Brisbane or Melbourne? Ive managed to get J Reward seats via Brissy before.

You need to be flexible with your dates . There is a Business award seat available on Tues 8th May SYD-BNE-LAX same points as SYD-LAX direct . Look for it as a one way booking .

Welcome to this amazing forum!

Being flexible is definitely the way to secure reward seats. Have the Virgin Australia page link directly on your bookmark bar and refer to it every day. Also, save the Velocity help line as a favourite on your phone so you don't waste precious minutes scrambling to find the contact details if you need help.

Sometimes a page will update around 10am and voila! J Reward seats @95,000 points magically appear, even if you looked at 6am. You just have to be prepared to pounce the minute you see them.

And Brisbane is so much more reliable for reward seat availability, unless you absolutely have to go via Sydney. Again, it's all about being flexible.

Good luck.

SYD is rare this far out.

BNE shows up far more and sometimes MEL.

Look for BNE-LAX first.
