SYD Meetup - Wednesday 20th November 2024 @ Long Chim

During last weekend's AFF Gathering #17, it came up in discussion that there isn't often much in the way of meetups in SYD (as opposed to the regular get-togethers that we see in some other locations). Looking back through the recent history of meetings & social events, it seems like there have only been 2 or 3 meetups dating back to 2022!

So... is anyone else interested in helping to remedy this situation via a November meetup for dinner? I've set up a poll to take votes on potential dates, but if you want to propose any others, please vote and comment accordingly. Happy to take suggestions for a venue.

Thanks for taking the initiative @DejaBrew! Yes, Sydney is definitely overdue for an AFF meetup.

I'm keen to attend if I can make the date work. I won't be able to do the middle week of November (11th-17th).

Ooohhh. 02 Nov may not work for me. I'm supposed to be doing a shift at CBR ... It is kinda non-changable because of access issues/controls etc. Let me talk to my manager and see if someone else can cover for me on 02Nov.

Voting appears to have slowed, so in the interest of time and lockings something in, I’m going to suggest we have a runoff based on the top 3 voted dates as of now, i.e. Saturday November 2nd (9 votes), Wednesday November 20th (7 votes) and Friday November 29th (8 votes).

@Mattg - Any chance you can please assist to get the polling options amended so we can do a runoff?

Timely, Sun 3 is best for me as I may have some other plans to work around on Sat (unsure) but I'll try and at least grab a drink/chat (on Sat 2nd if it's chosen). Be good to chat fares that I don't want ozbargained.

Have cast my votes. I'm personally unavailable for the 29th as I'll be in Japan, but am good for the other dates.

I will wait to see what date and venue is confirmed before deciding.

You can still vote your preferred dates. It doesn't commit you to being Platinum for attendance, but it at least helps us identify the date(s) that best suit the majority so we can lock something in.

Wed nights are always out for me as I play in a very competitive Pub Trivia league.

I can accommodate Fri nights or Saturday from 3pm onwards except Sat 16th Nov as I have theatre tickets. Sundays looking reasonably clear except Sun 24th.

Venue is also a determinant, is it going to be in Sydney CBD?

I don't expect anyone to plan around me <redacted>.
