Hi All,
Later this year I'm going from MEL to LHR via SYD and HND, whilst I'm familiar with HND, not so much SYD 🤣
So I have a few questions.

*All on one ticket.
Outbound VA875 - NH880
2 hour and 20 mins seems a bit tight...I did the Qantas bus back in 2022 and that took forever, I believe with Virgin you need to use TBus, no experience but can't imagine it to be better....I'm thinking maybe take the train? Since big cases will be checked in MEL already.

Inbound NH889 - next day VA804
Sigh, 8pm arrival is too late for a domestic connection....damn curfew.
Any hotel recommendations near the domestic terminal? Preferably with shuttle buses to both international/domestic terminals.

Doable if VA is not delayed
4 ways to get to T1

1) Terminal transfer Bus (TBus) come around every 15min and takes 10-15 min = 30 min at worst. Free

2) Train T8 line - Macarthur via Airport line. Don't take the Macarthur to City or city circle via museum as thats in the opposite direction

3) Rideshare Uber etc etc via the Priority pick up zone - see below- its across the road in the multistorey carpark

4)Sydney Bus 420 non stop between T2 and T1. takes 10-15 min but wait time depends on where the bus is in its route

For the Train and Sydney buses use Transport NSW trip planner (here is also an app version) to see which one is quickest for you at the time.

Outbound. If time is tight, take the train. Downside is it costs around $10!

I think most hotels have shuttle buses but charge to use them. At least the Pullman charges. For airport hotels, if you stay at The Rydges, especially with arriving after 8pm, you can just flow into the hotel from the international terminal. Then you have the bus/train options in the morning to the domestic terminal.

Wouldn't it be better to move to the domestic side on arrival since we have time?
Early morning departures stress me out 🤢
I just saw that you can actually walk from some of the hotels to T2, Mantra/Ibis etc...

You're right. You can walk. Even from the Pullman you could walk to the domestic terminal. Just depends on how much luggage you'll be schlepping and potentially the weather though.

What time is VA804. Sounds quite early.

As you are overnighting in SYD on way back, I believe your bags will be with you overnight.
That may affect the ease of walking to a hotel

Shuttle bus services to/from SYD to nearby airport hotels are run by Sydney Super shuttle for a fee which is not much less than rideshare. I think they run according to a schedule???. If walking not an option I would just get a taxi or rideshare to hotel

$7.64 for the train between terminals. I often stay at one of the Meritons at Mascot and use Mascot station, one is more handy to the station than the other and not much fun when you have 60kg of luggage and accidentally go to the wrong one.
