Thanks for those kind words. It is warming to hear some of the info was useful.
I do try to tell my brain to remember to take AFF Forum 'useful' pics along the way.

I'd say ... go plan it and make it a reality.

We only had 1 wish along the way ... more time.

We could have spent more time in every location as there were so many things to have seen and done, so many meals to could have been had, so many frosty beer varieties not sampled and so many amazing conversations that never were.

Although you implied not much effort went into the photos, they were very good - not blurred - and gave a real sense of what you experienced, complementing your prose that held my attention.

You seem like you are good for trains. In that case go that route. And go early. It is a big day

Other thoughts:
We were unsure of the timings from train hitting Fussen station to collecting the tickets.
For us, it was 25 mins as we timed it. And we had allowed 30 mins so we were right on the window. If I were doing it again, I would allow 45 mins to be safe from train landing to ticket collection provided you have pre-reserved.

I've just been rereading your trip report on Neuschwanstein, as I'm about to reserve my "Swan" ticket. I'll be arriving at Füssen station at the same time as you did (~ 10am), since I'll be changing trains at München Hbf onto the same RE 57504 service that you took. Based on your comment of allowing 45 minutes from train arrival to ticket collection, and the note on the booking form, "pick up time at least 60 min earlier!", would you say that requesting a preferred entrance time to Hohenschwangau Castle of 12pm is the way to go?

Mrs Paddy & I were in Budapest, Vienna and Munich, with a lot of train travel, and we enjoyed it very much... right up until I fell over in VIE airport checking in and broke my wrist!

Next year coming back from ARN via HEL and HKG via AY and CX so very interested in your experience.
