Sydney Airport Bus Route Changes

Looks like a new 350 route (numbered after Airbus?) will operate between SYD and Mascot station. Here are details of the (proposed) changes:

Based on the proposed network map and route changes document supplied by TfNSW it looks like only the 350 will run between SYD Airport and Mascot Station (then onwards towards Bondi Jn) with the 420 being curtailed to operate as Burwood to/from SYD Airport.

The document states a 10 minute frequency during the day and 20 minutes during early morning and late evening periods.

Just a data poiint: Off peak train from lower North Shore to Domestic $18. Return by catching bus from Domestic to Mascot than train: $3.40. Enough said!

It looks like they are discouraging the current users of the 400 and 420 to the airport from Mascot Station (and vice versa) by pushing them towards the train and the additional $14 odd per trip. It says there will be the 350 bus but a search of the Transport NSW site says the 350 goes from South West Rocks to Kempsey ?? Maybe I am missing something but I am sure the NSW Govt has its residents at heart and not the revenue they lose (not !).

No idea where you're seeing that but I think these changes are actually positive and aren't intended to force people onto the airport train. The new 350 will take the exact same route and use the exact same stops (between the airport and Mascot) as the existing options but during the day will operate at 10 minutes or better (20 mins in the "early morning" and "evening"). Currently, the service is ~15 minutes so this is a more frequent replacement.

Agree. A 350 bus every 10min is better than the current which often clumped a 400 and 420 within a few minutes of each other, and then a 15min gap.

FYI. This reorg was meant to happen just after the L2 and L3 light rail opened but was delayed due to Covid.

The new 350 takes a slightly different route from Eastgardens to Bondi, going more via the beaches, but i doubt many take the whole route.

Yes it no longer serves UNSW?

I used to use the 400 bus regularly between UNSW and SYD when I was studying at UNSW. But as I'm no longer doing that, the higher frequency of buses to/from the airport is a welcome change.

These changes have now been implemented.

Domestic - Mascot or vv. - 350 or 420.
350 now has a couple of extra stops that would be useful for those staying at the airport precinct hotels.

International - Banksia/ Rockdale or vv. - 420

A transfer to the 390X at Maroubra would pretty much follow the old 400 route to Bondi.

I used the 350 from Mascot Station to the domestic terminal on Saturday and the 420 back from the domestic terminal to Mascot Station on Sunday. Wait time both ways was about 4 minutes. Very few passengers. Still works fine to avoid the train surcharge.
