Don't know if this is in the right place.

I was wondering how much it would cost to go from Sydney Airport (Domestic) to Taronga Zoo on the train/ferry for one adult, one student and one child return.

I already have a Zoo pass.

You can purchase a "My Multi 1" which costs $20 for an adult and $10 for student/concession plus also will need to purchase a gate pass for the airport which costs $18.60 for an adult and $12.30 for concession

total cost being $38.60 adult plus $22.30 for student/child giving a total cost of $83.20.

The train fare plus ferrries can be bought separately ($25 adult / $15.50 concession for train plus $10.60 adult / $5.20 concession for ferry ) which will give a cost of $77. If travelling after 0900 from the airport the train fare will be slightly cheaper at $23 and $14.50

Another option is to take a cab to Mascot station and the train fare drops to $10.60 adult / $5.10 child for the train and the gate pass cost drops to $4.20 / $1.90 , bringing cost to $48 for a my multi and $41.8 for just train/ferry

The cab fare to/from Mascot will def cost less than $35.20

I'm just about to get on my morning flight so can give proper links or numbers but if this is a day trip then a return train ticket from the airport to the city can be had for cheaper then the numbers Dave quoted. Best to check the cityrail website.

A little bit more information form the OP would cut down some of the options available, for instance if you intend to go Sunday the cost would be $2.50 per person plus an airport gate pass, and the Zoo Pass should include the ferry ex Circular Quay if purchased as a "Zoo Pass"

These are straight from the cityrail website. It is the fact that the journey is a r/t from the airport and so the airport surcharges turn a cheap trip of $8 peak and $5.40 off peak such as can be obtained from Wolli Creek to the $25/$23 fares

The Gate Pass is $18.60 for an adult and $12.30 for a child/concession. Not needing a ferry ticket would take away the point of getting a Day Multi ticket and just the overpriced train fares would do

Personally, I would suggest just taking a cab rather than paying for 3 gate passes ; the cab fares off peak should not be much more than the train fare ( if at all ); just make sure to tell the cab driver to go via redfern and not on the eastern distributor

Even if buying the ferry fare it would probably work out better buying a return domestic to city ticket for $25/$15.50. With return ferry tickets for $5.30/$2.60. It will work out cheaper than a mymulti1 day pass and a gate pass.

The problem with this is the lack of flexibility of not getting the day pass.

I do agree that once there is
More than about 2 or 3 people a taxi is a better option for travel to Sydney cbd
+1 for taking the cab via Redfern

Indeed, as mentioned in my earlier post , it would be $6 cheaper peak and $10 cheaper off peak total on the 3 tickets to purchase ferry and train separately rather than get a my multi. If the ferry is included in the zoo ticket anyway, then a multi is def not worth it

even so, to the OP, just take a cab to the city , its not worth paying the inflated airport station fees

You can always take the hotel shuttle to Mascot, free one way $6 the other, or walk, its not that far if you dont have luggage.

Whoops sorry. Between turning up at the wrong gate and wondering why they wanted pax for MEL on the SYD flight and then changing gates. I mustn't have read properly.
That'll teach me.....
