flyerdude88 from the other forum (FT) shall be visiting Sydney next week and I suggested that a few of us might like to get together for drinks and dinner. Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday should be good for him. (Yes, I know that this is the same week as the QF lunch, so perhaps a few will be in town?).

I shall leave the day and venue open to more knowledgeable locals, but somewhere in the city would be the logical choice.

I am currently not sure if I can attend, as I will probably be travelling for work, but I will do what I can to make it along in person. I am happy to co-ordinate this thread either way.

Jeez you can't commit to the MEL dinner and now you've got three more dates in SYD you might miss. :) You might be a tad over committed.

Wish I could attend at least one of them.

Which I could attend at least one of them.

I am very busy and important :p:p

I was just thinking about SYD drinks/dinner and how there hasn't been one for a while.

Unfortunately I am in BNE working through the week.

Not sure what budget you are looking at, but Monday night is pie night at the Lord Nelson!

Highly recommended - $8 Pie/Mash/mushie peas and gravy, $9 pints of beer or $120 for 2010 Rockford Basket Pressed Shiraz (bargain) :)

I'll be in town those days and may be able to make it along. I've put in an entry for Rockpool dinner, and if that's successful (and it goes ahead still), Tuesday evening would probably be my least preference. Preference would probably be Wed, Mon, Tue in that order...

Sorry for just hopping on here now - been busy running around Victoria. I just made it to Syd this evening and don't leave until 8pm on Thursday (on the CA flight to PEK) - I'd be down for dinner / drinks / etc., on any night - I don't have specific plans on any nights listed. Cheers for putting something together

Welcome to AFF flyerdude88!!

Hopefully a few people can make it down on one of the days.

, kevrosmith, Kefci2000, others - When suits you best? Wednesday?

Unfortunately things aren't looking good for me. I have a 6 sector, 5958 mile domestic road warrior week starting at 05:00 tomorrow. I am in Sydney on Monday and Friday, but will be fairly busy on both days.

Monday night would have been a possibility but I opted for the earlier 18:00 departure to travel with a colleague (and arrive earlier so I can sleep) :( :(

Any night would work for me now... I fly down to SYD tomorrow morning from CNS, and am attending the Qantas lunch on Tuesday. They're the only factors I am taking into consideration for those days, but they are not insurmountable to prevent me from catching up either those nights or Wednesday.

Which part of the States are you from flyerdude88? I'm heading over there in late-August/early September for a few weeks and hoping to tour the east coast this time (Chicago, DC, NYC).

I'm leaving SYD on Friday at 0710, will you be around by then?

Ahh bummer to hear that penegal - I know all too well how those domestic road warrior weeks go

Let's do Wednesday - gives others time in case they want to come along - and grabbing drinks seems like an appropriate send-off for my last night in SYD. I won't even try and give a recommendation except to say I'm staying at the PH (thank you Hyatt CC + pre-devaluation booking) but I have a weekly multi pass so I can hop on a bus / train / etc. to get to another location if it's not within walking distance from Circular Quay

As for the states - I currently live in DC but I've actually lived in all 3 of those cities and my parents still live in NYC actually so I'm pretty familiar with all of them though I'm moving in the middle of July to head back to Uni so I sadly won't be there when you head over but I can give you some recommendations of places to go and places to eat

Added to calendar for Wednesday night. I can't really suggest anything as, while I often work in Sydney, don't really know much around the place at all.

Somewhere handy to the City train Loop stations would work most convenient for me, or within easy walking distance (e.g. Darling Harbour).

Sweet - any others free to join?

And even if not any Sydney regulars have any suggestions. Bummer about the fire at Rockpool - I actually had a reservation there for last night after getting to Sydney which obviously got canceled - I don't really know much else except the few places I've seen in Circular Quay which I imagine are just a bit overpriced
