Sydney Domestic Parking Woes

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it Sydney Airport which had greater revenue or profit, can’t remember which, from parking rather than aircraft.

They’ll be feeling it in the management bonus department and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch. (Yes inconvenient for some)

Wonder if their competitor the second Sydney airport will open before the car park is demolished and rebuilt.

Both or P1 only?

That was mid-Feb news.
P1 & P2 from this screenshot (of a TV) that got posted on FB.. however I can't see any other references to it, and still seem to be able to booking in P2 (and the Valet area that sits in P1).

Why couldn't they do this work during the pandemic? When there was no one using the airport?
Possibly because they were blissfully unaware that it had (I presume) major structural problems. There was very little warning that arrangements for hire-car pick up were changing. A customer service rep for a hire car company told me they got virtually no warning either so it has to be pretty serious to suddenly make all your hire car tenants vacate and make alternative arrangements.

SACL had no idea of the issues, this is evident due to the carpark closing a few days after the valet parking area had been reopened following a refurbishment.

From what I hear it could be several years. They have to rebuild the car park.
Rebuilding the car park is very easy, they're hardly complex structures. Figuring out how to use the space as retail development AND a car park will be the time consuming part for Syd Airport.

The car park already was a money vortex.
I particularly loved how they put the free parking area furthest from the terminal. So me, who isn't a slow mover by any means, would still struggle to park, walk to the terminal, meet someone who was already there, and return to the car, within the free period. Note I didn't specifically mean "pick up"

Any recent experiences with the T2 valet? Says it’s now drop off/pick up on arrivals level instead of driving right to the departure lounge?

Yeah I often use it as it’s cheaper than P2.
Super quick, you just end up on the wrong level for departures.

But you can use the downstairs (REX) checkin which can be faster at peak time (eg Monday AM?)

Arrived into T2 at 10:15 last night and went out and hopped in a taxi. And there we stayed, at the rank, for at least 30mins before crawling out. It is because of installing sections of the new overhead roadway adjacent to the airport, and the traffic was down to 1 lane exiting the airport, and all directed towards T1 in single file, where there was a U-turn facility part way for those wanting to head in any other direction than south. The queues of cars trying to get out of the P2/P3 parking lots were vast, backed up several levels! And of course of the shuttle bus for long stay was stuck somewhere, so lots of pax decided to walk it.

The pricing is cooked just quietly.
6 nights in P2 Sunday to Saturday cost me $184
1 night Sunday to Monday cost me $127

This is why I use Park and Fly.
I'm too impatient, I don't like the waiting and shuttle bus. Rather get in my car and go
