Hey all,

Missus and I are flying out of Sydney tomorrow. She is on BA16. Is the earliest bag drop 3hrs or 4hrs before flight? seeing a mix of results...
edit* She has already checked in online, so are there self serve terminals to print tag and drop bag early? or do we have to wait for the counter to open

We both need to go somewhere quiet in terminal to work during the afternoon before flights - ideally make calls.

Any idea on early bag drop be much appreciated, additionally any pointers on somewhere quiet :)

Many thanks

We have flown BA 16 a few times and check in opens 3 hours before. I presume bag drop the same time :) Got to sit in the Co-pilots seat and wear his cap :p

Love the pic! thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Well, the thing is that she has already checked in online. Therefore she has her mobile boarding pass, just needs to (presumably) print a tag and drop bag. *(i have edited original post now to reflect this)*

Do you know if there are self serve terminals to do this and then bag drop?
Or are we still at the mercy of lining up at counter 3hours before for a tag?
Sort of defeats the purpose of online check in early doesnt it!?

Even being checked-in online she will still need to present to a staff member at a physical check-in desk. Checking-in online just means that they have already collected some of the details so the actual process at the desk should be quicker. The agent still needs to visually check the passport details and check for any visa requirements etc.

It will be 3 hours before scheduled departure.

I didnt see any where you could print out the tag, so I think you have to line up. BA is right up the very end to your left - the first lot of check in rows. If shes up the front you get one of these - Liberty bag - amenity kit :D

The advertised time is 3 hours. We have been there early and on each occasion has opened about 20 minutes before the 3 hours. No way you will be able to drop your bag earlier as no staff there.

Sounds like you don't have lounge access? If not, my only tip would be to find an unoccupied gate. There'll be plenty of seats and enough space to have somewhat private calls, but no workbenches. Try gates 30 to 37 (walk straight after all the duty free stores then angle right). Whenever I've departed from one of these gates there's usually been a couple that have been empty.

Unfortunately not! I'll use QP later as I have a pass and am flying QF later. Before BA16 we will have a look around 30-37.

Thanks for the tip :)

No worries. Let us know how you go.

Other advantage of the gate 30-37 area is there are (from memory) only a couple of shops and no bars/cafes - so it will be quieter if there are unused gates. My experience of the rest of the terminal mid-afternoon is a pretty even spread of noise and crowds.

BA16 was out of gate 24 so we found around 25-26 was quiet enough for our calls.

Fortunately our work is / we are not important enough that we were required to do a lot of talking on the calls!

Thanks for the help all.

I'm now lurking around the terminal until QF163 at 18:30 so if anyone is around and keen for a beer - let me know.

Have you checked the 'lounge meet' thread ( sorry I can't link it right now). Some AFFer may be able to guest you in.

Many thanks all - I had in fact checked both of those but appreciate the link and heads up. Hopefully next time :)

You mentioned upthread you had a pass - did you not use that?

Decided it wasnt worth using. Will use it at the fairly uninspiring WLG QP on Monday morning for QF162 so I can gorge before the flight.

Will try SYD QP next friday for QF3 :)
