Sydney First Lounge

I love both pate and all cheeses. :)

But haven't really grown to like dessert wine or port yet for some reason. It's supposed to go down well with the cheese and all, but somehow 'sickly sweet' is what comes to mind on the first mouthful most of the time.

I'm with you all the way on the pate and cheese QF009. Cheese is one of my downfalls. And when I say cheese, I mean proper cheese. The squared off, treated, flattened vomit that comes individually wrapped that Americans believe is cheese is not cheese. Though in the absence of anything else......

Dessert wine I have to admit does not amuse me at all. I had my first Muscat on a QF J flight a few months ago, and I have to say it was like drinking cough medicine.

Talking of all this makes me wish we had a F lounge in BNE.

I had the duck parfait at MEL F lounge too and it was delicious.
Then again I love pate, parfait, mousse and all that sort of things.

OK... QF were running a little behind schedule BNE-SYD so I got 15mins max in the QF first lounge yesterday (still managed to squeeze in a nice cooked breakfast and some champagne).

There were only two menus in the book - Breakfast (open - 12noon) and Rest of the Day (12noon - close).

Breakfast menu was same as last time is was there (had great eggs benedict again with salmon) and didnt get to hold onto the menu long enough to get a pic (sorry!).

QF45 was pretty uneventful in whY and I am now freezing my balls off in CHC.

I have internal QF flight ZQN-CHC next week, my first in NZ. No J class which I found strange... do they use the convertable seats like in the AUS Dom 737-400's?

½ the Jetconnect flights within NZ are 734 wich have 16 millenium seats at the front.

As a QF WP, you have a very good chance of scoring one of these seats on the one class flights. (Forward preference essential).

Ah, talk of decent cheese and dessert wines...give me a De Bertoli Noble One any day and any number of cheeses or a citrus or lime tart.

Still got about 10 bottles (most half bottles) in my cellar - now to find friends who like it...

LW, You can drink the dessert wine yourself, but I'll happily help you polish off whatever variety of cheese you have to hand. The citrus tart sounds damned decent too!:D

Sat in the J lounge in MEL at the mo, and the cheese selection is a little disappointing to say the least....:(

now to find friends who like it...

Are you kidding?! You're having trouble finding people who like Noble One?

*Raises hand*

Huge Bortrytis Semillon fan here. Noble One being my favourite. Also a fan of Lillypilly (sp?) and Vasse Felix Cane Cut Semillon.

(Tried Inniskillin recently too. Decent, but not a touch on Noble One, and much pricier.)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Vasse Felix have done well out of me this year...also one of my favourite (WA) wineries along with Moss Wood (for their cellaring reds).

Now if only I could make it to a First Lounge again and see what they have on the afternoon menu....

Tell me about it. Been there 3 (or is it 4?) times recently - always for breakfast. Heading there next Monday...breakfast too.

Oh well, luckily the breakfast is fantastic! Plus if all goes well on MEL-SYD tomorrow afternoon, I'll have at least 90min to kill in the FLounge while I'm trying the arvo menu. :)

Actually, this is probably a silly question, but when flying a OneWorld carrier (LAN) with a QF flight number, I definitely have access (as a WP) to the Flounge right?

Also, can I use the QF check-in desk (I presume so, as I've done this for BA before), or do I have to go in search of a LAN desk?

Cheers,
- Febs.

This is my favourite cheese platter - it's from a hotel in the Jura (as in Jurassic) in France near border with Switzerland. The thing about it is that every cheese was produced within 10km of the hotel. Mrs Crazy and I managed 10 cheeses (5 each, shared). Only criticism is not enought blue! France is truly cheese heaven.

Presuming you are talking about being in the MEL Flounge this afternoon, that's a pity - I'll be slumming it over in the MEL Dom QP from about 4.30pm :( [He says typing this from said lounge after arriving in MEL 20 mins ago]

IIRC, the answer is Yes.

Hmm, never flown the LA flight on QF codeshare. LAN desks are at the LH end (as you walk in from the roadway) in SYD. Are you checking in for the flight from SYD or MEL?

As a One World Emerald member (by way of your QF platinum status) you can use any OneWorld First Class Lounge that is physically open and able to access whenever you are departing on any One World operated and marketed flight. So no need for it to be a QF flight number to use the QF F lounge. You would still have access if using the LA flight number.

If QF can check you through in MEL , you won't need to go to any checkin desk in Sydney, however it is , I believe, quite common that they cannot check through to LA.

If this is the case, you will need to go to the LA check in desks at Sydney, not the QF ones

I believe the transit desk staff can print out the boarding passes if that occurs. At the least, the baggage should be able to be through checked.

You cannot get to the transit desk landside. Going from MEL-SYD-AKL/SCL then assuming that MEL-SYD is on QF400+ , then would need to go to check in desk

Nah, Transit Desk at SYD Domestic (ie Gate 2 where the bus departs).

Sorry guys, I could've been a bit clearer.

I have two flights to AKL. One which I just arrived on, which was MEL-SYD-AKL all on QF (just had enough time to try the minute steak in the Flounge :)), and the second on Monday which is just a simple SYD-AKL, but on LAN. I'll be checking into that one from SYD.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Well, for your LA flight you will be checking in at the LA desks and not the QF ones
