Sydney Harbour Bridge Tolls

Well, that wouldn't work v well at all with a hire car given the $33 fee that some add for processing the violation

Nah there is no extra fee. Just the toll and a $10 admin fee from ROAM which I don't pay. They are doing well getting the toll paid, most OS based tourists wouldn't bother - as don't many Sydney locals.

If they can't sort out a seamless system with the car rental companies then good luck to them.

Hertz, for example, charge a $33 fee for providing the information to the toll company. Cheaper just to pay for the tolls properly

Nope, cheaper not to use Hertz. Their rental rates are never great on top of that.

Besides I am paying the toll properly, ROAM are acting illegally by refusing to accept legal tender.
