Is there some big event happening in Sydney tomorrow or over the weekend? I've never seen prices for hotels this high consistently across the board. Normally on wotif there are a few options for secret rooms 5 or 4.5 star for around $200. Tomorrow night there are only 2 available and they're 231 and 314. Anything not secret in the CBD is over 600. Rydges at the airport is 999, Mercure at the airport is 899. These are insane and around 4x the usual price. How would someone pay 899 for the mercure Wolli Creek is beyond me. What's the reason ?

Edit: Chinese New Year. There is almost nothing available in Sydney on Thursday night.
