Niagara on the Lake is beautiful.

And a short ride into Fallsview to check out the falls themselves.

Nice tacky lunch at the Rainforest Cafe is always fun too.

And I'll second the ice wine recommendation - its a must.

We did the Sydney - Los Angeles - Disneyworld - Washington DC - New York - Los Angeles - Sydney circle last september / October.
Flew VA to LAX, stayed 1 night at the Sheraton
Flew AA to Orlando and did 5 nights at Disneyworld (stayed in the Coranado Spribngs Resort onsite). My wife, daughter and I have done Disneyland 3 times and this was the first time we had done Disneyworld. It was unanimous that Disneyworld was much better than Disneyland.
Flew US Airways to DCA and stayed 3 nights. My daughter was a little bored after 1 day but my wife and I loved it and could have stayed longer
Took the Amtrak Acela Express from Washington to New York (we booked early and got pretty decent fares). Travelling at lunch time we got a hot luch included and as much drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) as we liked.
Stayed in New York a week and we barley scratched the surface of things to do.
Flew Delta back to LAX and then connected on to VA back to Sydney.

Last July, we flew Sydney to NYC for 5 nights in midtown (Hilton was well located), then picked up a Hertz rental for a drive down to Philladelphia and on to DC for 2 nights in the Hilton. Could have spent much more time in both Philladelphia and DC. Caught a JetBlue flight to Orlando for 5 nights (Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Universal Studios). Drove toKennedy Space Centre from Orlando twice as we couldn't do it all in 1 day.

Flew back to NYC on JetBlue for a further 4 nights at the W Downtown (not the best hotel for a family). Could have spent heaps more time in NYC - it was great (but can get expensive)! We dropped Niagara Falls from the itinerary as we preferred to spend the time in NYC and we couldn't justify the time and money to go to the Falls - it will have to wait for another trip. But, you can also catch a relatively cheap tour bus from NYC to the Falls for an overnight trip. It can also include DC and Philladelphia.

JetBlue was a great discount carrier - 1 free luggage pp, snacks, video and good legspace for very little money.

While the Theme Parks in Orlando were quite good (especially Universal), the city itself is very bland. Food was very average.

When are you thinking of going? I am doing something similar oct/nov this year.
syd - orlando, fly Miami to Washington DC, then train to Philly (side trip to Atlantic City) then train again to NY. NY to Chicago, Chicago to LAX - sydney.
I will now look at Niagra options while in the area.
So, if before my trip, please post your experience or any tips.
Car hire, I have always used Driveaway, and had no problems with them in the USA for the past trips.

Just did some of your destinations Xmas past. I would suggest SYD-DFW-MCO with Qantas, MCO-BUF with JetBlue, BUF-JFK JetBlue then Washington DC via rail from NYC. DisneyWorld is wonderful in low season - small queues and mild weather. Just back from my third Orlando-in-December trip. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal and the latest Legoland may also be of interest.

Hi all,

Looking at trying to plan a trip ex Sydney to New York - Washington - DisneyWorld - Niagara Falls, and was wondering what the best order would be, keeping in mind the most cost effective way. From what I have seen so far, it may prove difficult to route them. I will be paying fares, (not enough FF points left in the cookie jar anymore since last trip).

Anyone tried a similar route? Any advice welcome

Did this trip a number of years ago as part of an 'around the world' ticket - flew Sydney to San Francisco to Chicago and then Atlanta, spent a week at Disney World, then flew to DC, spent a few days there, hired a car and drove to Niagara - saw both the US and Canada sides - well worth spending some time around the area - and then drove to New York. Took 2 fairly easy days driving from Washington to Niagara and 2 days driving Niagara to NY. Good luck! And enjoy!

We did Disney World a few years back now, and would repeat the comments of those previous. Can be a very time consuming place if you are not staying at the right motel. That is critical. We stayed off DW but at a Best Western that had a direct DW bus to the park. No transit stops at other motels. We also did the Kennedy Centre and the belief in our family was one less day at DW and more at Kennedy would have been better.

Totally agree with the earlier comment regarding the people in the mobility chair things at DW - very annoying and they waddle up thru priority lines for disabled. It is a pity their mouths and stomachs weren't a little more disabled. We were on the Pirates ride and thought the boat was going to capsize from one !
