There were to Stamfords in Double Bay - the Sir Stamford and the Stamford Plaza. I thought it was the Plaza where Hutchence died. Bill Clinton also stayed there too.

This Hotel has an interesting past

THE HOTEL'S HISTORY:

• 1991: Hotel built in Cross St Double Bay;
•1995: Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke weds Blanche d'Alpuget;
•1996: Princess Diana stays at the hotel for four days during a trip to Australia;
•1997: Former INXS frontman Michael Hutchence dies in one of the hotel's rooms;

So which will be the more convenient for touristy type stays. The existing IC was in a good spot for access to circular quay and the rocks. Is there much of interest around the new one?

Hi mate - i would suggest the existing Bridge St. IC is in the tourist trap.

The IC downtown will remain as the tourist trap. Whilst Double Bay is within striking distance of the touristy areas overseas travellers will still want to be close to the action. This one will have all kinds of different uses .. I can see it big for weddings and parties and such and hiring out entire floors. My wife works in Entertainment and notes the value in being out of the prying eyes of the Paparazzi which often appear in towers near the existing downtown hotels (like IC Syd.) ...It is nice to have an alternate IC in Sydney and the idea of a smaller one appeals to me...
