Hi,

Need to go Sydney to Gold Coast 19/2 and return 20/2. Have found a good flight up in a Qantas A330 which I like.

On the way down the next day there is no A330 so its a choice of 737 or A320. Dont really like either as I find them squashed but if thats the only choice I was wondering if at different times the flights might not be as full.

Does anybody know if the later flights say 4:30pm or 6pm are usually crowded ?

Otherwise I thought maybe Sydney to Gold Coast and the next day Brisbane to Sydney.

I know this seems like a lot of fuss but I get a bit claustrophobic and was hoping to get a less jam packed flight home.

THanks

I think when you say "Qantas A330" you mean JQ19 ie Jetstar which would be an international flight hence departing SYD International terminal.

Coming back any A320 aircraft will also be JQ metal and arrive back in SYD at T2 domestic. B737 flights will be QF metal arriving at SYD T3 domestic.

Can you post the flight options up and back so we can tell you for certain.

What site are you using for availability & booking?

I have no particular experience with Gold Coast flights. But you are flying on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Typically these are two of the quietest days of the week. Of course there might always be some special event on, but I would expect these flights to be fairly lightly loaded.

This one is right and on the way back its JQ416 0r 418

Had a look at Brisbane to Sydney and there is QF 551 0r 553 which are 767's. But that means getting from the Gold Coast to Brisbane airport without a car. Need to think about that option.

Another option is QF865 1740/2010 which is actually a Qantas aeroplane with Qantas pilots.

Look on the bright side, if you are booked on JQ OOL/SYD & they cancel the flight they will probably bus you up to BNE & put you on QF BNE/SYD soat least you won't have to pay for the transport to BNE Airport.

Cheers will see what this flight is, but its not the pilots as much as the squashy plane. I did Sydney Melb in a 737-400 and it was dreadful. It was like being on a mini bus. Luckily that time I had my daughter with me but this time I'm solo and prefer a more spacious cabin.

Havent been on a 767 but at least they are probably roomier which is better for my stress levels.

And ?

Unless you suffer claustrophobia that 90 minutes might as well be 24 hours. Mine isnt as bad as others in a support group I know but I wouldnt wish it on anybody.

If you do suffer from extreme claustrophobia I suggest you look at Business class either flying Qantas or Virgin Australia, or getting an exit row seat on either a B737 (Virgin & Qantas) or and exit row seat on an A320 (Jetstar).

Oh and if your claustrophobia is that bad don't dream of flying on on a VA E190,F100 or a VA ATR72 or a QF B717, Dash 8 or anything smaller.

There is not a great deal of difference between an A320 or a B737 in economy class, its all economy class I am afraid.

You may also want to double check your geography as Brisbane is not exactly a short walk from Coolongatta either.

True, was thinking of a shuttle or something similar from Gold Coast to Brisbane. Then again might not be worth it but rather spend that to go business. THe business suggestion was good, appreciate it.

The Qantas 737-800s are slightly better than JQ's A320s. If you are claustrophobic then don't bother considering the Jetstar A320 flights unless you can score an exit row. The seat pitch is minimal and flights often full. If you can, try and get a 767 flight out of BNE, they are definitely more spacious. :)

Thanks man, I hated my only 737 flight so if the A320 is similar, its not for me. There are 767 flights from Brisbane I am just trying to figure how to get to Brisbane, cheers.

The 737-800s (which Qantas fly to the gold-coast) are not quite as bad as the 737-400s which you say you don't like, but they're still similar.

If you can get to any of the Gold Coast railway stations, you can catch a train directly to Brisbane Airport. You might want to look into that.
