I must have made close to 100 Brisbane Sydney flights and after a flight last year on Fly Corporate I noticed that Rex were now flying the Brisbane - Toowoomba St George - Cunnamulla - Thargomindah route with a SAAB340.

How could I fit in a flight on that route.

After a bit of schedule searching I found a well timed Sunday Sydney-Toowoomba flight on Qantas with a 2 and a bit hour stop in Toowoomba before catching the Rex flight to Brisbane.

Just a few photos crossing the border into Brisbane.

The flight up to Toowoomba was more inland than the standard route from Sydney to Brisbane that follows the coast north.

The Dash 8 was returning to Sydney with a load of passengers.

The airport was not completely quiet as Air North fly a round trip to Melbourne on an E170 so if you missed the VA version there is another type to log.

I hope all the photos behave themselves.

The aircraft arrived from St George where about 4 passengers got off,

I was the only passenger to board in Toowoomba and I went and had to look for an agent to tell me that I was here and flying to Brisbane.

A few of you might have seen the boarding pass was a hand written piece of paper, almost like a tag bag, maybe I should have checked in online.

The plane arrived at the expected departure time, so it was running about 20 minutes behind schedule, as a few people disembarked they had to find some bags and this seemed to take a good 20 minutes.

Eventually we got going around 4:50pm, we did a take off and did a loop around the airport, good for taking photos.

The we did another loop around Lake Cressbrook.

We took a very northerly path across Wivenhoe Dam, Lake Samonvale and then did a right turn(Redcliffe on the left) coming into Brisbane airport landing towards the south.

I guess the flight took about 30 minutes, with a clear sky and no thunderstorms brewing it should be able to be completed in 20 minutes, although its probably going to be quicker going towards Toowoomba as less chance to worry about traffic coming into a country town airport.

There was no onboard service although usually they try and serve water.

For the $130 airfare I thought it was an enjoyable afternoon trip and I got a chance to catch up with some relatives who came out to the airport for a couple of hours.

Nice trip report.

Toowoomba-BNE must be a very short flight.

Not much faster but cheaper!!
TWBA - BNE airport is about 2 hours at the speed limit normally.

If you need to go to BNE CBD that will save some time...but then you need to pay $$$ to park anyway making it dearer again.

Good trip report. I would never know Rex would fly to these wonderful places.

I have never been to Toowoomba before. I remembered reading news that Toowoomba wants to become an international airport, and say it is Brisbane's third airport (after OOL). Not sure how realistic that is.

The screenshot at the end seemed to suggest it took 61 minutes!

I am wondering if that time is based of when it landed into Toowoomba from St George.

Reading of the IPhone the plan landed around 4:25pm and we landed in Brisbane at 5:24pm.

Thanks to all for reading.

It doesn't factor in the regular traffic incidents. I'd rather fly tbh.

Not a conventional route but some great views of the South East...

Realistically it is SE Qld's 4th International airport after BNE - OOL and MCY.

Cathay already operate a weekly 748 cargo flight from SYD - MEL - WTB - HKG.

They also have the occasional charter service to / from China
