So I am off to FRA on Friday to visit my daughter who is doing a gap year as an au pair. She will miss the mango season as she won't be back until uni starts next year.

Any hassles taking fruit into Europe?

I was thinking it wouldn't be a problem (aside from packing them!) as I can't see that there would be any impact of exotic disease introduced into Germany's mango crop ;)

I think you might have a problem. Many fruit diseases affect different fruit types. Sometimes especially so. Same with bugs, etc. You could always declare it on arrival, but personally I feel it is a bit too dodgy. Sorry, as I know it would be a marvellous gift for your daughter!

Here is the German customs page about passengers bringing in food.
Food

Although it is in English it is not easy to understand and lacks specifics.

As a frequent visitor to Europe and a mango lover I have found mangoes are often cheaper in Europe than they are even in QLD. They are flown in from Africa daily. All depends on season of course.

And they are so good!
