I wouldn't bother with DSE gift cards unless there are bonus points. There are some bonus points with Virgin Blue (5/$), at the moment, but I think the 50% bonus will only give you 5.5/$ rather than 10/$...

Why not???? We all have to eat, pay for petrol etc...and the wish cards provide a means of John K effectively extending his 6 month cut off to increase the number of $ that he earns the extra 0.5 on.

The Virgin Deal is not mutually exclusive and can be used as well.....as long as someone wants to fly Virgin that is. There is no point earning bonus points on good and services that you do not want. The Virgin deal would only gain the extra 0.5 of a point within the 6 months, and John's expressed concern was not being able to spend $40,000 within the 6 month period. Hence my suggestion.

That is a good suggestion and one I had not considered. I will review the situation again a couple of weeks before the 6 months is up and make a decision then. In all honesty an additional 20,000 MR points for no extra cost would be a very nice bonus.
