This. Recommend subscribing to the facebook group, there are two of them, one with general info and the second is the "alert now". Wife was monitoring alerts when we stayed at Cradle last August, took off when alerts started to come in around 10pm, got a few good pics.Best place to get info is to join the facebook group-Aurora Australis Tasmania.you will get info on where sightings can be made-it can be all over Tasmania.I saw them from a Dash 8 Descending into DPO.
get a spot with little or no light with a clear view to the south. At present though we are at the low point of the cycle.Sightings should increase to next maximum in 2026.

Naturally BOM put out an Aurora alert for the night before I return to Tassie.
But forecast is for clouds and rain.A coronal mass ejection is expected to impact the Earth within the
next 48 hours, likely resulting in moderate geomagnetic activity and
visible auroras during local nighttime hours on 01 October. Aurora
alerts will follow if significant geomagnetic activity actually
occurs.
On the local night of 11 October
(and maybe 12 October), aurora may be visible from Tasmania,
the coastline of Victoria and the southwest coast of Western
Australia. Aurora alerts will follow if significant geomagnetic
activity actually occurs.
It has been ticking along nicely the last few days, with naked eye beams last night in Tas.BOM suggesting a probable aurora tonight from Victoria and Tasmania.
