Best place to get info is to join the facebook group-Aurora Australis Tasmania.you will get info on where sightings can be made-it can be all over Tasmania.I saw them from a Dash 8 Descending into DPO.
get a spot with little or no light with a clear view to the south.At present though we are at the low point of the cycle.Sightings should increase to next maximum in 2026.
This. Recommend subscribing to the facebook group, there are two of them, one with general info and the second is the "alert now". Wife was monitoring alerts when we stayed at Cradle last August, took off when alerts started to come in around 10pm, got a few good pics.170803
 
BOM is saying that on 25/5 there may be an aurora visible from Tasmania,southern Victoria and south west WA.

Geomagnetic activity is expected to
be between minor to moderate storms (G1-G2). There is also a small
chance of strong and severe storms (G3-G4). Auroras may be visible on
the local night of 25 May from Tasmania, the coastline of Victoria and
Southwest Coast of Western Australia. There is a chance aurora may
also be visible on the local night of 26 May.

A coronal hole wind stream is currently influencing conditions at
Earth. Auroras sightings may be possible during local night on 07
August from Tasmania under clear skies and with the current crescent
Moon.
 
Naturally BOM put out an Aurora alert for the night before I return to Tassie.

FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

Two coronal mass ejection observed on 26 August are expected to impact
the Earth at the end of UT day 28 August or early on 29 August,
possibly resulting in significant geomagnetic activity and visible
auroras during local nighttime hours. Aurora alerts will follow if
significant geomagnetic activity actually occurs.
 
Another Aurora alert for Friday 1/10 for Tasmania.
A coronal mass ejection is expected to impact the Earth within the
next 48 hours, likely resulting in moderate geomagnetic activity and
visible auroras during local nighttime hours on 01 October. Aurora
alerts will follow if significant geomagnetic activity actually
occurs.
But forecast is for clouds and rain.
 
BOB saying a very good chance of an Aurora from Tasmania,Vicorian coast and SW WA coast on Monday 11/10.Forecast is reasonably good.
On the local night of 11 October
(and maybe 12 October), aurora may be visible from Tasmania,
the coastline of Victoria and the southwest coast of Western
Australia. Aurora alerts will follow if significant geomagnetic
activity actually occurs.
