Tassie It is

Thanks for your trip report. The NW and Western parts of Tassie are spectacular places and well worth a visit. Although when I first visited Waratah in 1979 it was a lot more basic - the pub didn't have taps, just a gun on the end of a line plugged into a keg under the bar. But, the countryside was worth it.

After 3 relaxing nights at the cove, we headed off back to Launceston for 1 night. We arrived at the Verge hotel to check in at 1050am and surprisingly they had room availability and allowed us to have the room Straight away.
We put our bags down and headed for a coffee and walk to the seaport. It was a sensational, clear skies and the sun was beautiful on the back. We sat at a cafe on the seaport for about hour having a couple coffees, enjoying the lovely weather.
Today was a very chilled, relaxing day wondering around Launceston.

Dinner tonight is at a wine bar called Havliah and then we are off to Hobart tomorrow.

We departed foggy Launceston and headed for Hobart via Richmond.
We arrived in Richmond to a beautiful sunny day, and I grabbed another Scallop Pie & headed for a walk down to the river and the bridge.
After lunch, it was wine tasting at Pooley’s, a picturesque location.
The Chardonnay and Sparkling were lovely and a
Couple bottles were bought….. now the problem, how do we get all this wine home!!

We headed to Hobart for a beer date with Rooflyer at the customs hotel, although brief,
Great little catch up before dinner.

Our last day in Hobart was a relaxing day, walking around the city and the waterfront enjoying the beautiful day.
We had lunch at fish frenzy and sat outside in the sun enjoying the fish and chips.
We had a coffee at Salamanca, enjoying our freedom as we started to think about coming home to lockdown. We had escaped 3 days of it, so we only had 4 days left when we got back, we would’ve extended our stay for another couple days if I didnt have to be back at work.

We thoroughly enjoyed our last minute Tassie holiday, the weather was kind, scenery beautiful and the food delish!
If it wasn’t for covid we wouldn’t have come here for 2 weeks, every year it’s an overseas holiday so it really has opened local tourism (when we ain’t in state lockdowns!)
We weren’t for one minute disappointed that we weren’t in Port Douglas or Cairns during this trip, we loved it and I was glad I made the decision to cancel QLD and change to Tassie at the last minute.

Likely one of the very few back at work then. Everything seems so awfully shut here right now. Not so great timing for us as our first major break in over 2 years starts today. Was supposed to be in Noosa. But who expected SA to shut down.

Yep during lockdowns, I’m classed as an essential worker but I’m not classed as one if I try and get vaccinated!
Ah bummer, the weather in Noosa would’ve been a lot nicer than here.
It’s very difficult, a lot of people have been working extremely hard the last 18 months due to the pandemic and then when a well deserved holiday comes around, it’s cancelled

Thanks for the photos and descriptions of your trip. It was obviously a pleasant get-away. If the weather from here in WA continues to drift your way you are going to get a few more wet and windy days.

You were lucky with the weather moving just before rain came in-definitely in Launceston where sunny skies haven't been very common.
Glad you enjoyed Tassie.I love it and because of work have been able to spend a few years here over the last 15 years. At the end of next week I will have spent 12 months in Tassie since the beginning of 2020.

Today we made our way to Strahan for 3 nights.
We made our first stop at Sheffield for lunch, which I enjoyed a nice scallop pie and a coffee. We continued on through the Winding wet roads and enjoyed the scenario, before stopping at Tullah for a hot chocolate and a walk around the lake.
We eventually arrived Strahan and checked in to Risby Cove. The little “boat shed” units are nice and spacious and have uninterrupted views of the river. The weather was quite mild with no wind, so we enjoyed an afternoon drink on the balcony.
Tonight we are having dinner at the hotel and then tomorrow the Gordon river cruise.
