A Melbourne Airport spokesman told me they'd received no indication another blockage was planned for this morning but my cabbie to work told me drivers were planning to protest.

Thousands of travellers were stranded last night as taxi drivers blockaded the airport at 9.30pm.

Apparently MEL AP paid for people to use SkyBus last night to get out of the airport because the taxi drivers blockaded the local area.

Surely it's about time to clamp down hard on these ratbags who don't realise their industry is dead because they killed it?

Take care out there today and leave lots of time to get your plane on time.

Delays for passengers at Melbourne Airport taxi drivers stage Uber protest

Disgruntled taxi drivers have blocked roads leading to the airport and stopped picking up passengers about 9.30pm on Tuesday night, leaving travellers to take buses into the city.

...

Angry passengers took to social media to vent their frustration at the delays, with one commuter claiming he caught a taxi, whose driver demanded the fare upfront, only to be dropped on the roadside one kilometre from the airport.

I have stated previously that I will never catch a taxi again in Sydney...looks I have to include Melbourne now as well.

Just get an a couple of immigration officers patrolling the beat..... Should reduce the numbers..... No?????

Just get the police out there issuing fines.

Seems taxis still haven't been creative in working out how to adapt or at least protest in a way that would get the public on side.

They seem to think the protest at the Airport in Adelaide was an amazing success. They managed to delay the UberX launch by 1 week......

I was going to book a Silver Service to the airport tomorrow for certainty of vehicle size and type. This has swayed me to going Uber SELECT.

On a side note - I wish Uber had an 'Uber Airport Transfer' option or something for vehicles like a Camry and up. I don't need an XL, just a family sedan. But the only option to book ahead of time (and avoid possible surge) is UberX - which puts you at risk of a Toyota Echo turning up.

With the protest deferred to 1200 'high noon' (supposedly), there's as yet no evidence of delays for flights departing from MEL on Wednesday 16 August that appears related to this.

However MEL is a far more significant airport domestically than ADL.

What isn't clear is whether passengers will have difficulty if they are arriving at MEL to catch a flight (i.e. from landside: by shuttle bus from the car park, by dropoff car, taxi or Uber, SkyBus or the route 901 SmartBus.)

Just noting the Uber access gouge I mean fee will be $4.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Never flying Qantas again - never taking a Taxi again - I hope you learnt how to ride a pony as a kid mate - you are fast running out of transport options!

Nah. They must be due for another round of hefty fare increases. Perhaps a fuel surcharge. If Qantas can get away with it think the taxi industry can too.

no longer relevant

The $4 pays for the tow trucks to move the taxi's out of the way ;)

I posted this in the Adelaide Taxi disruption thread but heard today that our State Govt charges taxis $6000 for Insurance that in Vic costs $1200. THAT is gouging.

What insurance does the State government sell?
