TBIT 'Qantas' Business Lounge - extremely confused, as are staff

I thought in that case you had to be connecting to international, not from. But happy to be corrected.
Isnt that rule for F & J pax only not status pax.
https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access
"First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa)."

If only you'd read one paragraph more...

Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.

The OP says he is "AA EXP (oneworld emerald)" OWE comes with access regardless of class of travel doesnt it?
But the AA rule might apply but as they said they arent travelling solely in the US so this would be a incorrect interpretation of the rules.

AA EXP do not as a rule get access to AA lounges (they need a paid membership). There are certain exceptions, e.g. connecting to international itineraries.

For AA EXP (or PLAT) forget the connecting bit.

If they are travelling on a defined "international" itinerary then they have the same access as any other *O Emerald ( or Sapphire).

The pax was in Y. Not F or J so why would that apply?

EXP is executive platinum which is OWE. Doesn't that status alone get them in? Or is opusman saying that AA's EXP staus (OWE) has a rule meaning it overwrites the One world rules for access specifically for AA members?

Where do you get the connecting to from? As far as I can read it is connecting between?

Lounge access works after an international J flight, even if connecting to a domestic Y

Im totally confused why you guys keep talking about international J or F when they were in international Y connecting to a domestic F. OWE doesn't make someone a sudo J or F pax. While they enjoy benefits similar to they aren't. Therefore status rules apply.

Can you fill me in on what I'm missing here cause im totally lost on some of these points you guys are talking about. Sorry im im not as experienced or knowledgeable.

Yes AA EXP have different rules, but as far as I can see, since he wasn't travelling solely on a domestic routing, he should have been given access on his status

OW lounge access rules based on class of service necessarily involve connecting from an international long haul to a short haul. If it was the other way around, you'd already be connecting to a long haul in J or F and have lounge access relevant to that class of service anyway.

Yes, my point is irrelevant in this particular case. I was just discussing things "more generally".

His access is determined by his status. Which I pick up at #288

Hi mate

we did the QF/WJ combo to YVR in sep last year. Keep in mind that WJ uses T2 at LAX, opposite side of carpark to T4 so there is no direct link as T2 is a StarAlliance terminal (aircanada) but Westjet operates from there. Once you have dropped off your bags in the flight connection drop off, go back upstairs and back into TBIT to the OW lounge. You should have no issues as long as your WJ BP has a QF flight number. This should be sorted when you checkin at syd and they give you your Syd-lax and lax-yvr BP's upon checkin.

Cheers

Pretty sure this doesn't give you access as the requirement is OW marketed and operated (so even with a QF code, WJ metal wont count). Does anyone have anecdotal evidence they will let you in as a OWE (QF WP)?

Traveling on Friday and the 845a doesnt operate, so waiting until 1pm and would love a shower..backup plan might have to book an awards AA flight and cancel it after ;)

It's a bit unclear from the website but you should have access if you're on a QF flight number: Lounge Locations | North America | Los Angeles International Airport Tom Bradley Terminal | International Business

Note that under Qantas Club Member the only requirement is "Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas^ or Jetstar Airlines+ flight number". Since SG/WP have complimentary QP membership this would get you in, even though for some reasons the access for WP seems stricter on the face of it ("operated and marketed flight").

For a QF WP/SG to access a Qantas operated lounge, Qantas' rules apply (QF marketed), so access should be available.

It is were a non QF operated oneworld lounge the oneworld rules apply (oneworld operated AND oneworld Marketed), so no access.

That page is poorly written.

What is should state for QF P1/WP/SG is:
Next onward flight must be on a Qantas^ or Jetstar Airlines+ marketed flight or a oneworld operated and marketed flight.#

I don't think its going to count for much. I think somewhere in this or another thread i did the same. I called the call centre who confirmed and assured me i had access on my AA metal QF code flight from LAX to SFO. The QF site and rule showed i would be fine and should carry those if i wanted to.
Turned up at the door and was told NOPE. Was told i shouldn't be in this terminal and dont know how i got in. (This was before the connector). Anyway since they weren't busy and i only wanted to shower the lady at the door said as a special favour to me i could come in. But made it clear i wasn't meant to and it was a favor to me.
Since I was getting in i didn't want to argue. I just wanted my shower.

So i don't think a call from QF confirming access is going to mean much when you get to the door and the gatekeeper says no. Not saying they will reject you or that the current staff might be better educated in the rules but just be prepared.

... (This was before the connector). ...
That in itself explains it.

Lounge staff have been educated, re-educated and educated again since the connector opened.

See the title of this thread - it's been an issue since May 2014 since when all one needed to get airside at any LAX terminal was a same-day BP for any flight departing LAX from any terminal.

After 300 posts on this topic you would think that Qantas would go to the greatest lengths to clarify the access rules in the minds of their own representatives and ensure that travellers qualified to enter the lounge would receive the appropriate welcome. One can only hope!
