Terrible experience

I was trying to picture what destination I would look forward to less then the flight when it suddenly hit me. The in-laws place.

Back on topic I would be more annoyed with the 3hr earlier flight.
Sometimes, I'm taking a DONE4. Sixteen flights, and I usually only have a handful of places I actually get out of the airport, so ten of those flights would be just for the flight. And the points.

It's nice for me to see someone other than me having their typed words misinterpreted for tone. One persons tone while typing often can be read another way & Im glad OP was able to understand that.

My take was it had more to do with lack of space & extra comfort for the inconvenience & loss of $$/points.

Phoned Velocity and they confirmed this was the only flight with J availability so left it.Get to the airport and checkin and am then called up to the desk in the lounge and advised downgraded to Y. No offer of compensation. Absolutely terrible service.

Hope everyone takes notice of these "one off" issues that happen frequently on VA! The ask is now higher, but the reality is ... "business as usual" with the failures.

Velocity replied, they gave me 8,000 points back. I responded advising that is not good enough given the inconvenience of a time change and downgrade which resulted in me being separated from my partner.

I got 5,000 points for my bags coming out late so I would be expecting more than 8K for a downgrade.

Something like an upgrade on a similar flight in the future would be acceptable?

If the kid in your seat paid full fare on the new flight then that's the real reason your FF ticket was downgraded. It's the system that stuffed you.
They probably only worked out the difference in point value and you will get the min...... Always push for the most..... Which you are finding will take the most work to get.

Exactly. Totally inadequate compensation, considering an upgrade on the BNE-MEL route costs 15,000 points!

That sounds fair. A downgrade should be pegged at the same value as the corressponding upgrade. I'd appreciate hearing from Bwood9 if they eventually agree with that logic!
