I'm probably going to regret this, but ......... on what is your hunch based, exactly? (And bear in mind the oneworld lounge access rules).
Oneworld Emeralds will continue to have access to Qantas First Lounges. Qantas Platinums will not.

It's just a hunch based on the rapid dilution of Platinum benefits in the past few months. After each dilution you think OK that had to be done but now they'll stop. Nope. New benefit diluted.

Qantas will not touch Gold as it competes with VA Platinum and Gold. In fact they will probably end up giving Gold more benefits to differentiate further from VA Gold.

And once the benefits of Qantas Gold and Platinum are the same is there a point in having the current Qantas Platinum level? No one says the Qantas Oneworld Emerald equivalent has to be Platinum. Chairman's Lounge and Platinum One are more than enough.

I know it sounds crazy to a lot of people but it makes sense to me.

That would be following, in a way, the model the US majors have had for years - decades. as in if you're an elite, say a UA 1K (equiv, more or less, to QF Plat) or AA EXP flying on a *domestic* itin you won't get in, yet your Star/OW equivalents from other programs can get in to lounges. Clearly this has been a crowding related issue in those markets. It was always a surprise to me in some ways given that background that QF let Golds into the QP (not that I was/am complaining mind you).

I can see an argument for "If you're plat but not flying in F go use J lounge" but I honestly do think it's a very pessimistic view to take. If, as you suggest, the WP level will basically become nothing much more than an extra time on the upgrade window and maybe an extra bag or something, there's little to give incentive to make it that far, and the leap from Gold to WP1 is VERY steep.

I still think QF can find other ways to differentiate WP, and above, level benefits. If they choose to or not, that's up to them of course.

I'd also comment that Gold is relatively easy to obtain - or retain. QF can't give too much to the Gold level as it would spiral out in costs and so on. The PB thing is pretty easy... other benefits... we'll just have to see.

All IMHO - as always :)

Probably not that crazy :(
No one in One World has P1 levels of qualification as their entry level Emerald, perhaps QF is aiming to pioneer it ?

Thank you Red Roo ...

... I had lost computer records (stored of Floppy discs no less) and had no documentation for two years of my travel earlier last decade (back then ALL my travel was QF / oneworld).

Red Roo went into bat for me and QFF have now sent me reprints of statements for the period in question.

Red Roo, I'm blown away as in how quickly you have addressed my PM. I was only after a contact number but you took the initiative to find the flight concerned and added the missing SCs to my account (turnaround of less than 4 business hours between PM and action). Wow, simply Wow!!! :D
