Just a quick note to thank everyone on this board for making me realise that I am not a freak and that there are other people out there who fly BNE-ADL via SYD, just to get an extra 10 SC's.

As of last night I am a first time WP! (and all in Y) Now, to get down to SYD to check out the F lounge.

As an SG through 3 years of discount WHY travel I discovered this forum in November 2004. With information in it (and on FT) I became a WP on 31st Oct 2005.

Feels nice to make it doesn't it :)
Amazing what a few small detours can do for your status !

Congratulations on getting there the hard way.

As I am now working in Brisbane but still living in Sydney I will see how I cope with the almost weekly commute back and forth. Platinum will not be easy to retain so I may have to look at routes like SYD-CBR-BNE or vice versa occasionally for extra SCs.

Sequel, congratulations on attainng the marque of air travel on QF.

Now as JohnK says, the fun is in retaining the status. As one who had it for 5.5 years and now dropped to Gold, I fully understand your BNE/SYD/ADL issue, as I have long sought to fly most routes the longer way (to retain Plat initially, now the added incentive to re-obtain). Why else would I want to fly BNE/PER via ADL [well, the additional 30 SC's for a start  and the better arrival timing]

I did a Circle Pacific fare to retain my WP status...

The funny thing was it worked out cheaper flying PER-CGK-HKG-SFO-ORD-LGA-DCA-BOS-LGA-MIA-DFW-LAX-SYD-PER-SYD-CGK than booking PER-SYD-LAX return on QF in J!

Now to work out how to retain WP status for 2009/2010... There's not many places I haven't been!
