That's not a deck... THIS is a deck.

I think there are probably people here who believe there's a lot more to a deck.
A friend who was married to a builder was going to have a deck out the back made for Christmas - the husband removed the back steps (a couple) and put down a layer of gravel and that's how it stayed, for years and it was still like that when he died! It was a matter of 'watch the step' if you went out the back door.:D
This is the same friend who had just got her house 'a bit nice' with some new carpet and a new lounge suite and she came home from work to find her husband had removed an internal wall as he wanted to renovate. You guessed it - stayed like that!

Maybe time to trade in that husband.

He's been deceased for over 20 years now (goodness that long). My friend sold the house and bought a nice (finished) one. She's the same friend who met a lovely chap and was a very happy, did lots of travel with a camper van etc and then wham - he died 2 years ago of oesophageal cancer that no one picked up. Life sucks sometimes. But she still soldiers on.

Youve met my brother?

The day he met my then boyfriend (now husband), builder brother bought home new front door for the house. About 5yrs later we were there for dinner and yep, new front door still in the hallway, not installed. My sister in law is an amazing women to put up with my brother. Last time I went to his house, he was down the road helping a neighbour install gyprock - meanwhile his house is still being renovated (20yrs!)

Yes, being a single woman I have to rely on the family. Dad and brother both have ADHD, it's incredibly frustrating to try to get things done!

Wire went in on the weekend, we're about 1m short though. So we're nearly finished! I didn't take very good photos yesterday, so when it's all done I'll post finished pics. Started planning the deckwarming as well.

I love the wire around decks. We were on the balcony of our rented place last night thinking wire would be much better than the glass, which being by the beach needs cleaning every time it rains. We have wire on our beach shack verandah and love it.

Well.. we're finally complete! Excuse the washing on the hills hoist...

Still have the fun part to complete - styling it. All I've done so far is the half wine barrel. I'll take a trip to Bunnings this weekend for some plants etc..

I'm genuinely so happy with it. This deck has made my yard so much more usable and I actually feel like I want to have people over now - before I tended to shy away from it because the interior of my house isn't huge.

All up I estimate $10k. It was $5k for the roof - then steel, timber, fixtures and fittings... I'd say another $5k.
