At the standard SQ time of "touchdown minus 2 hours" the SQ cabin lights came lightly on. As I was already awake I placed my order Fresh scrambled eggs, prepared on board with bacon, tomato and mushrooms. A great start to the day.
Other breakfast items included croissant and pastries.
I made my order for a AA Kenyan coffee. Unfortunately a few moments later the Seat Belt light came on and the hot beverage service was suspended. The light then stayed on for the remainder of the journey and I would have to wait for my Kenya coffee on my return flight.
Another consequence of the light turbulence was that I was still in my seat in my PJs.
Eventually I was able to change and be ready for LAX arrival. Toilets are well equipped with quality toothbrushes, razors, aftershaves and other items. I would like to see some kind of deodorant.
We ended up touching down 90 minutes ahead of schedule. We had quite a lengthy taxi and then a 15 minute hold on a taxiway so close to the terminal. Eventually we were towed to the gate.
Being first off the aircraft made clearing US immigration a breeze. I was first to hit the counters and had a choice of three vacant stations. While I was waiting at the baggage carousel I could see a winding queue to pass through customs from another flight.
By the time my priority bags came off the belt, I was able to wheel my way to customs and I was straight through. Good morning LA.
Thank you SQ for getting me and my bags to LA in a great mood and ready to go for the day.
From LAX I caught a Prime Time shuttle to the Costa Mesa Hilton booked through Priceline.com for $50 per night. Great value. As it turned out this was also the QF crew hotel. I didn't mention that I had flown SQ F! Quite a busy hotel in the afternoons when the QF crews have rested and come out of their rooms. I must admit that I didn't spend too much time chatting to them other than in the lifts. I didn't travel this fare to meet Aussies.
