The best airline in Y

Swiss long haul Y is the best all in one experience I've had to date:

-excellent service
-excellent catering
-excellent IFE
-excellent seat for comfort and pitch

For the best Y seat you would have to consider row 15 on JAL Express domestic 738-

better legroom than most J seats.I was dreading this one as mrsdrron also had to travel Y.She ended up not minding it.

MH food has gone downhill really. It used to be ok, but when you have the same breakfast out of KUL to both HKG and PER many many times, it is hardly something to get excited about.

Flew MU (562/1) SYD - PVG - SYD in 2010 (don't ask me whY???)
Got the SAME meal for ALL 4 meals including breakfast !!!
Once was enough - for both the airline and the food.

It would depend on aircraft and it is not easy not to include benefits of status as part of the equation.

For me Qantas wins hands down.

Long haul

- Qantas 747 and A380
- BA 747
- SQ A380

Medium haul

- Qantas
- BA

Short haul

- Qantas
- Aegean
- TG A300

And I have not included OA or TWA for long haul but I will never forget the experiences I had with both back in the 90's. I guess things have changed a little since then.

Only a couple of inches of recline.not an exit row.5 or 6 rows of J then first row of Y is numbered 15.Row has 2 seats on the A side,3 on the DEF side-3-3 from there back.But mrsdrron had her plat shadow follow her from QF

My first flight with Singapore Airlines last yesterday . A380 as well . Compared to the other airlines in Y i have flown i was very impressed by the level of service in Y on Singapore . Even supply metal cutlery in Y as well . Flight Attendants always accommodating . Food was better than i have had on others in Y . Only issue i found the seats feel a bit harder than others . Maybe my bony backside with the weight i have lost to

legroom is everything for me (6'5).

had 71D on the Qantas A380 to-and-from the states and it was fantastic.
flew to London last year with Singapore Airlines (paid for exit row seats) and that was great as well.

Flew domestically in the US with Jet Blue and wow - so much space. Wish there was a domestic carrier here that had their legroom.

QF wins for me in most cases. I just enjoy the product even in Y.

Other then QF, some of the best short haul I've had was in TG. Very impressed. AB also gets good marks.

I tend to stick to a limited range and options for medium and long haul (OW & JQ basically) and thus have not experienced some of the other highly rated airline who are know for their product doen the back in long haul, so in a way what I've have had, nothing comes close to QF.

I think this is almost the impossible question to answer as there are just too many variables. As well as those already mentioned by other posters, the pax around you can influence your experience. Empty seat(s) next to you or screaming baby ? What if the food was great but they didn't have your choice ? The best FA may have had an off day. Then there's your allegiance to one airline, cultural factors, volume and frequency of announcements, quality and variety of IFE. The list just goes on and on. Your status will impact your Y experience as higher levels enjoy better seating choices, for example a free exit row seat will greatly enhance your experience as opposed to a recliner in front of you.

Having said all that, I'm fine with QF but as yohy?! says, I think SQ service levels and catering are superior.

For who?

As a QF Platinum Qantas economy is much much better than SQ economy. But even on an even playing field I think Qantas economy is streets ahead of SQ economy on any aircraft type. I do not see the difference in service levels that you guys see.

And if you are a little bit smarter in how you plan travel then an AUD650 airfare SIN-SYD return and earning around 7,800 QFF points without factoring status is almost unbeatable. I am looking and still cannot find better....

Disagree.. I flew LHR-SIN-MEL on SQ last year in whY and they were nothing to rave about at all. Very ordinary indeed. The meals on the QF flight over were better and they didn't run out like on SQ (I ended up with the 3rd meal or back up meals as they called it). I've never been on a QF flight that was "understaffed".

I like EK short haul, especially row 47 on their 773's.

Medium and long haul....don't know anything about Y, except you turn right
