The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

That is sad news. All three of those deaths so far are women. So considering younger men and teenage boys are the ones more at risk of Pfizer complications it seems that AZ is a great choice for under 40 men and AZ is the only vaccine available to most people under 40 at this time in Australia.
The Pfizer related rare heart inflammation, according to a lengthy discussion/program on the vaccine rollout last night - is not fatal and only requires several days of hospitalisation (not in ICU) and some anti-inflammatories.

Is the break out of how many Pfizer doses & how many AZ doses are being injected each day - being released yet?

If the numbers are not rising by 15% to 20% week-on-week then that suggests the injection rate is dropping off massively as we are now in peak 2nd dose of AZ. Without such an increase it suggests a rapid drop in new vaccination candidates for AZ.

I do know that some GP clinics weren't available to first doses only second ones and which begs the comment, that won't stop until all firsts have had their second so what needs to happen is mass vaccination hubs where resources can be increased to ensure that both first and second vaccinations can continue simultaneously but what would I know?

I would expect that the latest raw numbers from NSW, but especially the hospitalization numbers and condition - AND AGES, would put a fire under any vaccine hesitating person. If Pfizer is offered to all, I would expect to see a huge uptick. What I would like to know (and I doubt anyone has this data), how many over 16's in Aus are true anti-COVID vaxxers who will not accept any COVID vaccine.

It seems there are anti-vaxxers, covid vax hesitant, Astra Zeneca hesitant and everyone else

It would be much simpler to go back to those in their 50s for Pfizer (since they were affected by the ATAGI change on Astra Zeneca) and then open to all - free choice

There were two deaths in Israel due to the Myocarditis.
And in the last couple of weeks a report from Singapore about a youngster who suffered a cardiac arrest a few days after his Pfizer shot.Sudden death is a known complication of myocarditis. If you happen to have your cardiac arrest somewhere there is no defibrillator or no one who knows how to use one your chances of surviving are low.
Plus relatively small numbers of younger age groups have been vaccinated.

I'm fully Pfizer'd, but my two boys 16 + 18 not, and I'll hold out to Novavax comes in for them. No rush, but we may go to Poland mid next year July school holidays if no quarantine. Shoot machine guns (they are shooting video game nuts), heaps of firing ranges there. Get's them out of the house too.

Have you been following whether there are any side effects of Novavax? How are they made differently (from Pfizer)?

I suspect around 1.7x the number who refuse to immunise their children. 1.7 being the avg number of adults per family.

One day while visiting Port Macquarie around 7 or 8 years ago, I came across a very distraught grandmother sitting at a bus stop.

Her daughter had just rung to let her know she was expecting again. Good news I thought!

Problem is, her previous grandchild, a boy had died of hooping cough as the daughter & partner do not believe in vaccinations, and had no intention of vaccinating the expected child.

Turned out the grandmother had been with the baby boy for the entire time from a few days prior to admission to his death a few days later. She described very clearly what the poor baby went through. Would make a great TV advertising campaign.

For those who don't know, the North Coast of NSW is anti-vax central.

I would like to see manslaughter charges in cases like this, unless there are medical reasons. I know these people genuinely believe in what they are doing, but they not only gamble with their own child, but put other children at risk who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons.

Not vaccinating your kids when there is no medical reason not to is child abuse. Vaccines are an incredible piece of medical technology that have saved millions from death or severe disability. To deny a child access that is a complete abrogation of the responsibilities a parent has towards a child.

Novavax is different old tech to AZ.With AZ it is the adenovirus virus vector used to deliver the bits of the spike protein that is thought to be responsible for the reaction that causes clots. The J&J vaccine also uses an adenovirus vector though a different one to AZ.

Novavax uses a nanoparticle technology to deliver the vaccine so really shouldn't cause clots.

Any thoughts on why hospitalisation rates for Delta are about 10% in NSW (30 of approx 300 today)

But seemingly sub 1% in the UK.
Obviously vaccination (roughly 50% versus 10%) explains some of it.. but you'd expect the UK to be much higher still.

Aren't the statistics showing that NSW has a high proportion of likely non vaccinated young people ill? And I havent read of the vaccination rate of people currently in hospital care.

Did the elderly vaccinated folk in the Nursing Home fully recover? Their hospitalization will also bump up the rates.

UK’s figures for partially vaccinated are much higher - 70 to 80% and 1 dose gives you some protection so that might explain it.
